RL-relevant SVU question

Dec 11, 2006 04:08

Does anyone either know the exact wording or have the DVD so they can get me the exact wording of Elliot's whole speech about going to college, from "Sophomore Jinx"? As stupid as it sounds, and as much as it just confirms my parents' (not-incorrect) belief that I'm obsessed with SVU, I've found that his whole thought process and argument in that ( Read more... )

God, I love you. That was exactly the exchange I wanted. I've been using it as an argument when I try to explain the difference between going to QC as a part-time night student, and going away to "real" college. QC doesn't even have dorms. (And by the way, for the record, there's no apostrophe: it's "Queens College" because it's located in Queens, NY...as am I.) and yeah, Canada's an idea: I've always loved Toronto, and I have cousins (including one I almost never talk to, but get along great with) right outside of it (not too far from Barrie, Ontario, which amuses me to no end ( ... )

I'd tell you to come to South Conn and live with me, but fuck if I'm letting them put me in underclassmen dorms. Pfffttt. Then again, we could hang out. And it's only 73 miles from your grandma who could feed me! I mean, us.

Just try to find a place that fits you and forget the rest.

You're not doing math or engineering, right? Because the place I got my BS, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, though an engineering school, was oddly nurturing - much more so than high school (or grad school, but I guess that's not a surprise!) What really helped was that there was no such thing as failing a class - you just, essentially, didn't take it if you did poorly. Too many 'No Records' resulted in Bad Things Happening, but in general I think the lack of serious grade angst made things very pleasant.

I got a lot out of living on campus, or very close to campus.

Me? Math? Engineering?

*runs away screaming*

Thanks for the advice, though, and the grading system does sound cool. :-)

That's strange, I want you to live in the Pratt dorms too. Funny how that works.

In case anyone reading this is wondering what that was about, that would be John, currently of Pratt University, who wants me to live wherever he does at any one particular moment. Unfortunately, he likes cold weather, so the idea of him moving to someplace warm to get me to move there to is not going to happen. *pouts*

Name a place that is warm that isn't in a red state or southern california (hate that place) and maybe I'd consider it. Cold preserves, heat destroys. Besides, you know what heat does to me, you've seen what happens to me when I overheat and it's not pretty.

You can't claim that! There are way too many Canadians on my flist for you to consider Boston the frozen north!

Now...define SoCal. Granted, I'm all for leaving L.A. *eg*, but what about San Diego? Or getting totally away from SoCal, what about Hawaii? *manages--barely--to refrain from saying anything about OWW*

Points on the you overheating thing, though. Maybe I should set you up with one of my (very few) other cold-loving friends. *runs*
