That was the line I thought of a few minutes following our mini earthquake yesterday.

First thought was, of course: Holy shit, my house is shaking! WHY is my house shaking?

Then it stopped, and I thought: Earthquake?

Then I checked my phone for any confirmation, got none, and worried that there was something fundamentally wrong with my house... Then, ( Read more... )

It's funny because I didn't feel a thing, and I'm more concerned for that than if I had felt something. Is there something wrong with me? I can't even feel an earthquake when everyone else does? But then again, my parents (and dog) didn't notice anything out of the ordinary either, so I'm going to chalk it up to a sturdy foundation!

It's pretty split down the middle here at work so far as who felt it and who didn't. I don't think it's a lack of awareness as much as it is what you were doing at the time and, as you said, the foundation of whatever building you were in. My house is super-old and I was sitting quite still at the time, so maybe that's why I really felt it.

I guess if the walls weren't falling in, there was no reason not to continue. I did look out the window to see if life was continuing uninterrupted outside, which of course it was so I un-paused Netflix and continued dinner. It did feel a bit complacent, though. Next thing'll be tidal waves.
