So some years pre-ME Saren has just finished up some mission when a frantic call comes in from Sparatus- the Counselor/Primarch's grandniece/nephew is being held by Insert Bad People Here. Saren isn't exactly the kind of person you want in a hostage situation granted, but he's on the right planet and they don't have the time to call someone else. So Saren goes in, deals with the situation, kills the bad guys.... and is stuck with a small child for x amount of time on his small ship until he can turn them over to their family. And Saren is not terribly fond of children. Hilarity ensues. Also Anon would love you forever if Nihlus is there (was helping Saren on the initial mission and shacking up with him afterwards) and is pissing himself with laughter over this whole thing and doing everything in his power to make it worse.
Note to OP: I haven't brought Nihlus into the story yet, but he's coming! Don't worry. :)

The call came in the small hours of the morning. Saren was not asleep and had in fact been awake for awhile, getting in a little target practice and possibly finding a fresher breakfast than his constant diet of military grade rations

This is fantastic so far! I can see Saren facepalming through this entire thing, just, "By the Spirits, tiny mortal, have you any idea how important I am?" Lol, love this. :)
Oh my god someone's filling this!!! So far this is utterly precious- I love how you're portraying Saren and Alara is delightful. This is so much of what I wanted A!A., and I'm grinning like an idiot. Can't wait to see what you do with Nihlus!
The bit where he was vaguely disapointed when he couldn't just kill everyone with a grenade, precious. And the wracking headaches over dealing with a strange small child, and the quality of Saren's stories, and the note that this was the third strangest conversation he'd ever had? Glorious.

This is inspired :-D Giggling, snorting, grinning, smirking... having the best reactions ever sitting here reading this. I love it. Can't get rid of the image of a truly haggard Saren in my head and not minding that one bit :-)
You also made me annoyingly curious as to the first two strangest conversations in Sarens life.

When you said she was grabbing onto his horn I was giggling so hard that I had to doodle something- knocked this out during slow periods at work and just finished fussing with it ^^

OP you are the most wonderful human being in the world! Thank you so much, no one's ever drawn anything to my words before! Gosh, it's a good feeling. It's adorable, his disgruntled expression and the way she's snagged him, it's all great! Thank you!
More fic is coming. I've written out the next part, it just needs to be formatted properly and uploaded, probably sometime on Sunday or early next week.
