The walk from the incident site to the safe-house was a leisurely but long three hour stroll. He could've been there significantly sooner if he'd wanted to take the elevators or a gravcar, but Garrus was using every bit of his knowledge of C-Sec monitoring to evade detection. A walk was safest. A deceptive no-hurry amble that wouldn't raise questions or draw attention even if he was spotted. Just another turian, albeit an armed one, yet clearly not Archangel reborn.
But he'd still felt too exposed, too vulnerable during the walk, like an awareness of a bullseye having been painted on his back. And now the discovery he'd made upon reaching his safe-house. The lock had been tampered with. It was a subtle job. He doubted he would've found it if he hadn't been paranoid lately and looked for it specifically before entering the apartment.
Being a fugitive on the run had a way of making you develop healthy paranoia.
So he had guests.

Kaidan released the pressure on his spurs, but didn't budge otherwise, leaning over him, dripping blood but looking far too calm. "I'm not here to kill you. I will if you leave me no choice, but please, Garrus. Don't make me do that. You didn't fire on me back during the blow-up with Udina. Let me return the favour

I don't know how to feel. 1) Very good writing. Garrus and Kaidan were in character, and everything flowed well. Nice ending too. 2) I fucking love Garrus, and his arrest makes me irrationally angry at Kaidan who was just doing his job :C

Damn A!A, that was awesome. Loved the voices of the characters. I love Garrus, but I like seeing some other sides of him explored. I think this definitely could have happened and after reading this, I'm so glad it didn't! Excellent job!

Thank you for writing this A!A! It needed to be done. Garrus can be wonderful but there's a dark vicious little monster living in the back of his head and if you feed it it takes him down very bad paths.
I may love Garrus and not care much for Kaidan but I was cheering for the guy here as he took down the unrepentant murdering bastard Garrus had become. Good fic, it's good to see what different choices can lead to.
