I just read the most amazing thing. And now? I'm going to pass it to you. Why? Because I want to get thoughts on this.

[EDIT]The article that brought this up is here![/EDIT]

Interesting. I always thought Slughorn was up to no good. Things are fine and dandy up on the Dumbledore front, but Slughorn shows up and BAM-- Dumbly dies. Too bad it's much too obvious for most of our likings.

I can totally see it.
And I can see JKR giggling manically going, "I TRICKED YOU ALL! I RULE AT LIFE!"

Oooh, I don't trust Slughorn at all. He gives me the creeps.

XDD It'd be the perfect icon, too! And if I were an author, I would totally do that!

The whole Slug Club just gave me the willy nillies. Maybe because I don't like slugs...

WOW. This is a completely unexpected, crazy plot-twisting theory. I HOPE McGonagall is a spy! I'm so convinced that I'm kind of bummed I read this. Now I won't be surprised when it happens. ^_~

I agree with some of the comments about Snape. He's so obviously been painted at the spy that it would be lousy writing (in my opinion) to have him be the spy. Much better to leave him as a wildly fascinating red herring...while we're all theorizing and double-checking our Snape facts, it's been McGonagall all along.

great theory and it seems quite convincing too. totally agree ladymaryllis, wish i hadnt read it cos it would have been a fab surprise.

dont think snape is the spy cos i think dumbledore knows that he gona die (cos snape told him about the unbreakable vow) which is why he passed on everything he knows to harry to carry on his work. who better to tell than the boy from the prophecy? harry, who perhaps more than anyone wants voldy destroyed for good. and like you said too obvious for the spy to be snape.

also, jkr likes character twists...snape looks to be bad and turns out to be good(-ish!!) and malfoy finds himself scared and unable to kill dumbledore after all his bravado. maybe mcgonagall is just another?

I think the six both is the best characterization that we've had of Draco. She actually gave him something other than sneering hate toward Harry and it was awesome.

Totally rooting for good!Snape and good!Draco!

Snape is clearly a spy, we just don't know for which side. Either he's spying for Dumbledore or he's spying for Voldemort. I agree with you though, I thin he's a good guy! But there isn't enough evidence to point 100% either way, so there is all of this hype about him right now. That's what I meant by red herring. We're all thinking, omg bad!Snape good!Snape when maybe McGonagall is the one we should be concerned about. =D

You're right, she does really like character twists. I hope we get a juicy one in book 7! McGonagall would certainly qualify. xD

I love that theory but I have one thing to say...

Kimmii L got it wrong, McGonagall did not tell Harry's class about the Chamber of Secrets...it was the old ghost history teacher that did that...but he doesn't appear in the movies and so McGonagall gets the job of telling the story in the movie.

Yeah, I saw that too. A lot of people are confusing the movies with the books, sadly.

Still a brilliant theory because it makes Snape innocent :D

My vote is all for Snape being innocent!

where McG was during the Graveyard scene, and why Voldemort did not mention her in his schpeel about the missing death eaters?

He doesn't mention all of them in the first place, actually. besides that, Snape couldn't get away from Hogwarts to do ... so how could McG (if she is, in fact, a spy)?

As for Headmastering: McG knows that the school may shut down (didnt' she suggest it?) and she knows that very few students will come back.. so great, if she's evil, she's just aquired a dead school. Nice plan, evil!Mcgee.

I can't remember where it's stated (forgive me), but it's said somewhere in writing that Voldemort wants Hogwarts. Like, he doesn't want it just to attack it, but he wants wants it. Holding it as his HQ to him would be like saying "I fucking WIN" to the Wizarding World ( ... )

He names off his most important ones though. If McG is an awesome spy, she's going to be high up. He talks about the Lestranges, then "one too cowardly to return" (Karkaroff), "one who has left me forever" (Snape probably), and the faithful servant at Hogwarts, which would be Barty. I dunno how that would imply "Oh yeah and that other faithful servant at Hogwarts too, but whatever".

And come on, a teenage boy? Not being betrayed by someone (even if it's a tiny thing)? Doesn't happen irl.

I'm afraid I wasn't aware of this part of a young man's coming of age, heh.

Borgin isn't at Hogwarts, though, is he? No, he's in Knockturn Alley.Yeah but Snape never says anything about being at Hogwarts.. he just asks about the assistance Draco's getting. Not to mention Draco's probably been conversing with other Death Eaters about what will happen, since they're part of the ( ... )

(god damn you computer x.x stupid shortcuts made me lose my entire post, but I shall redo it)

(Keep in mind that I'm not saying either way whether McG is a spy or not.) If you were an Evil Dark Lord and had a spy really close to Dumbledore and really close to Harry, would you let people know? Voldemort isn't stupid and he doesn't have to tell his followers everything he does. He probably keeps more secrets from them than we know. Therefore, it's possible that he's kept McG being a spy secret from the others. McG, knowing that she's a secret, would find another way to contact him ( ... )

When Harry accused Draco of giving Katie the cursed package, didn't McG say he was in detention with her?

masteroftrouble March 29 2007, 03:34:38 UTC
I didn't even think of that!

Yeah, she does.
But what does that mean? - Nothing.
Nothing because it was Rosmerta that gave Katie the necklace.
