Flashback: The year 2000. Before I knew the joys of sushi, beer and Zardoz. I was still in the hell known as Great Neck South and I took the SAT. Two attempts, I never cracked 500 on the Math part (in-fact on my retake I scored a 490...while my verbal skyrocketed on the retake from 630ish to 710 ( Read more... )

You might want to try 'the princeton review' I used to work for them in the late 90's (SAT and MCAT)and they rocked. Your training actually consists of a condensed version of the SAT training class, and you DO have to get a certain score on the math and verbal, but only AFTER you finish that training. I tended to like TPR better than kaplan cause they really focus on HOW to take the exams.

mmm the good old SATs. You know I took the SATs in 7th grade. I got a 1075. I did a tone of prep work. In the end I had taken 2 semester long prep classes, completed one giant work book and taken the SATs a total of 5 times. Then exactly 6 years from my first attempt I was able to pull off a 1200. If you combined the top score from my math and verbal I would have received nearly a 1400 - I just couldn't seem to do it all in the same day. So in the end I settled for my best single exam score of 1250, which, ironically was the 3rd test I had taken.
I don't know how it is back east, but out here an SAT score of 1250 will scarcely get you into UC riverside (they have the lowest admissions - crappy location). Most people entering the UCs have SAT scores of 1350+. The only thing that got me in the door was my SAT II bio score.

Alright, gotta run, time for my lab practical out in the Marsh. mm boy, gotta love the smell of afternoon swamp water! (bleh) I' sure I'll rant all about it on my Lj, so I'll spare you for now.

Ah, the Call In Sub position.

So it begins.

Or something.

Depending on the turnover, you might get a permament sub position within a year, and who knows, land a regular spot quickly. Good luck man.

Thanks. During the interview they mentioned they are trying to open up a few more permanent sub positions.

you know. . . they always need more teachers in California. . .

yeah I know the odds of you moving out here for a job are 3,720 to 1, but still. I had to try.
