[Part 1] Part 2:
Satoru rubbed his eyes as he sat up from his bed. The sun was up, and someone had drawn the curtains, allowing the morning sunlight to pour into his room, and bask it in a nice warm glow. But Satoru had no time to care about the sunlight, he had bigger problems at hand: his daddy and mommy were missing.
Barely being able to stop tears from running down his face, Satoru hopped off his bed and ran towards the dining room, not caring if his father had chided him countless times for running along the corridor, incase he slipped and fell or something.
“Daddy!” he cried, once he saw his father at the dining table, reading the papers while drinking his coffee.
“Satoru? Shouldn’t you be asleep?” asked Sho, putting down his cup and picking his son up.
“But you and mommy weren’t there,” protested the little boy, hugging his father around the neck, “where is mommy?”
Sho froze. Nino had gone home early this morning, after making sure that Satoru wouldn’t wake up. Sho didn’t want his son to grow up thinking Nino is his mother, it would come to a point in time when he’d realize that his mother isn’t real, and Sho didn’t want to think of what would happen then.
“Satoru,” began Sho, stroking the boy’s hair, “the person you saw last night isn’t your mommy…”
“No! That is mommy!” yelled Satoru as he started thrashing about in his father’s arms, “I want mommy!”
“Your mother died four years ago!” bellowed Sho, “stop being so stubborn!”
Sho immediately regretted raising his voice at his son as he saw beads of tears forming at Satoru’s eyes. That was the first time he had ever screamed at Satoru, but what was worse that he had told him his mother was dead. He hadn’t plan on telling his son the truth until he was older and more mature, and had told him that his mother was at a far away place instead, but now he had ruined everything.
He didn’t know if he should give chase or just stand there when Satoru sped off, his cries echoing around the large room, making Sho feel worse than ever.
“Sho-san?” his head butler piped in, “Should I bring Satoru-kun’s breakfast to him?”
“Yes, please do,” replied Sho, slumping back into his seat, “Thanks, Aiba,”
The head butler of the Sakurai Mansion, Aiba Masaki, nodded and went off with a tray of food, leaving Sho to wallow over what he had just did. He knew that Satoru felt different from the other kids as they had a mother, but he didn’t. He always wanted to make it up to him by remarrying, but he knew it was stupid to make the same mistake twice, the mistake of marrying someone when his heart was with another.
His train of thoughts was cut short when Aiba reappeared in the dining room, panting as if he had run a marathon, “Sho-san! Satoru refuses to eat!”
Sho was jolted out of his seat, “What?! But he didn’t eat dinner either…”
Grabbing the tray, Sho made his way to his son’s room. He found the boy on his bed, snuggling against his pillow and had his blankets wrapped around him tightly.
“Satoru, eat your breakfast,” he said, placing the tray on the bedside table before climbing onto the bed. Sho tried to carry his son in his arms and feed him, but Satoru was stubborn and refused to even look his father in the eye.
“I want mommy to feed me!” he demanded, crossing his little arms across his chest, and pouting as he did so.
Sho’s patience seemed to have vanished as his son continued to disobey him. Without thinking, Sho grabbed his son. Being an adult, he easily overpowered Satoru, and soon, Sho was dragging him to the dining room at a pace which Satoru had difficulty catching up with and deaf to the little boy’s pleas and cries.
Just as he was approaching the dining room, another hand grabbed his and forced him to stop in his tracks.
“Sho, you’re hurting him!”
Sho spun around and saw Nino. Nino with his eyes fixed at him in such a terrifying manner, Sho felt himself backing away. When Sho released Satoru’s hand, Nino swooped down and picked up the sobbing Satoru.
“What are you doing here?” Sho managed to choke out, surprised at the sudden appearance of Nino.
“Aiba called me. He said you were abusing your kid,” replied Nino angrily, “I thought he was being an idiot, but it looks like he’s right,”
Silence filled the air, broken occasionally by Satoru’s sniffs, and Sho felt as if an elephant was sitting on him. He had allowed his anger to take control, and for the first time in his life, he was rough towards his son, and now Nino seems to think that he’s a horrible father.
“Nino, I’m sure Sho didn’t mean to hurt his son,”
Sho look past Nino, and saw Jun, another one of his friends from school. His hands were on Nino’s shoulder and waist, and Sho didn’t know why but he felt as if someone had started a fire inside him.
“Nino, Satoru didn’t want to eat his breakfast, and he missed dinner last night, so I had to force him to eat…” explained Sho, hoping to convince Nino that he was in the right, but somehow, even his excuse seemed pretty lame.
Nino looked towards the boy in his arms, “Is it true?”
Satoru nodded against Nino’s shoulder, “But I wanted mommy to feed me! Mommy has never fed me before…”
Nino smiled down at the little boy, before nodding to Aiba, a gesture to show that he didn’t mind feeding Satoru. A smile lit up on Aiba’s face as he escorted Nino to the dining room.
“Is it me, or does your son think Nino is his mother?” asked Jun as he and Sho watched Nino’s retreating back.
“Satoru mistook Nino for his mother,” Sho confirmed, following the pair, with Jun at his heels.
The three adults and Satoru found themselves seated at the dining table, Satoru smiling as if he was the happiest kid in the world as Nino placed a spoonful of porridge in his mouth, but not before blowing on the spoon to cool it.
“Sho…” started Nino, looking anywhere but at him, “where’s Satoru’s real mother, shouldn’t she be looking after him?”
Sho took a deep breath, “she died giving birth to Satoru,”
“I’m sorry,”
“Don’t be, it was an arranged marriage anyway,”
Satoru continued sipping his juice happily from the straw which Nino had offered him, completely oblivious to the conversation the adults were having. Once he was done, he tugged Nino’s sleeve, “Can mommy play with me?”
Nino pursed his lips at the question. It was supposed to be his day off, and he had promised to hang out with Jun. He was feeling pretty bad for having dragged Jun all the way to the Sakurai Mansion, and had planned to make it up to him.
Glancing at Jun, the latter give him a nod. He smiled in return.
“Okay,” replied Nino, ruffling the kid’s hair.
“Yay! Can Uncle thick eyebrows play with me too?” asked the kid, giving Jun the most adorable face he could muster. Nino let out a laugh at Jun’s nickname and proceeded to join Satoru in giving Jun a cute puppy-dog face.
Of course Jun couldn’t say no.
“Do you mind?” Jun ask Sho. Sho shook his head.
In no time at all, Satoru was skipping down the corridor to his room, with Nino on one side and Jun on the other. Sho looked at the trio and felt his heart clench so badly he thought he would just die there. The three of them looked so perfect together, and to say that Sho didn’t feel jealous would be a total lie. But what could he do? It was his own fault that Satoru was angry at him. The only thing he could do would be to take his briefcase and coat which Aiba was holding out to him and prepare himself for another day of work.

AN: How was it? I know this lacks a bit of Sakumiya action, but still...I wanted to add some Matsumiya in for some tension :) comments are welomed
