[Prologue] [Chapt 1]

Chapter 2:

“Master Kazunari, the guests have arrived,” informed one of the maids as she bowed low to him.

Nino nodded and sent her off with a wave of his hand. Tying his bow-tie once again, Nino peered into the mirror, making sure everything was absolutely perfect.

“You look fine, Nino,” said Aiba, standing behind Nino with Nino’s jacket. Helping the shorter man put it on, Aiba added a few final touches to the whole design.

“Perfect,” said Aiba, smiling at his work.

“You seriously don’t fail to amaze me, Masaki,” said Nino, checking himself out in the mirror, “how in the world did you get the colour like this? I’ve never seen any fabric this soft yet strong and have such a vibrant colour,”

“What can I say, I’m a genius,” laughed Aiba, grinning at his self-compliment.

“You mean an idiot,” teased his friend, walking out of the room.

Aiba pretended to pout at being called an ‘idiot’, but he knew extremely well that Nino didn’t mean what he said, that was just Nino’s way of showing affection.

“I bet the Matsumotos will be stunned at your outfit,” commented Aiba, his eyes glinting, “I don’t think they, the leading business in the fashion industry, can get their hands on something like this,”

Nino laughed, silently agreeing with his friend. Glancing at his giggling friend, Nino tried to recall how they met, but nothing came to mind. Him and Aiba went a long way back, even he couldn’t remember how it all started. The taller man had been the perfect butler/friend Nino could ever ask for, apart from him taking great interest in brewing strange concoctions, but it’s not like he cared very much.

The two arrived at the lobby soon enough. Nino’s father was already there, having a small chat with the Matsumotos. There were two of them, the older one the boss of Matsumoto’s fashion house while the younger one was his son. Nino didn’t know why his father insisted on him entertaining the younger Matsumoto when he was doing a perfect job himself.

“Let me introduce my son,” said his father, “this is Ninomiya Kazunari, my successor,”

“I’m Ninomiya Kazunari,” said Nino out of obligation, bowing to the Matsumotos.

“He looks promising,” commented the older Matsumoto, “I hope you and Jun will get along well,”

Nino took a look at Matsumoto Jun. He looked like the typical son of a rich business man - perfect hair, flawless skin, faultless manners and dressed in the latest fashion.

“Run along boys,” said Nino’s father, sounding like he’s talking to two kids, “Go get to know one another, but remember that dinner’s in an hour,”

The two fathers walked off to the study, laughing about the new deal that he had just made which will bring both companies endless profits.

“Hi,” began Nino nervously.

“Hi,” replied Jun curtly.

Nino stared at the younger but taller man in front of him, wondering how he should approach him. Jun did give off a very frightening aura. Thankfully, Aiba saved him from having to say something.

“Hi, Jun-kun!” cried Aiba, appearing right in front of Jun in the blink of an eye, “I’m Aiba Masaki, Nino’s butler! Let’s be friends, ok?”

Jun nodded slowly, looking slightly apprehensive at Aiba’s enthusiasm. But after reassurance from Aiba and Nino, Jun finally began to relax and didn’t think that Aiba might suddenly explode… or at least he kept that thought at the back of his mind.

“So, Jun-kun, I heard you like music, wanna check out our new stereo?” asked Aiba excitedly, bounding up the stairs with Nino and Jun following behind him.

“Is he always this … enthusiastic?” asked Jun, looking at Nino.

“Always,”

Ohno poked at his fish flake cereal, too nervous to eat. It was a big day for him, and Ohno knew he would need to strength, but he just couldn’t get the food down his throat.

“Satoshi, is there something wrong?” asked the king of Atlantis, slightly worried about his son’s lack of appetite.

“I’m not hungry,” replied Ohno as he continued to play around with his meal.

“Does this have something to do with me punishing you for leaving the grounds?”

Ohno jolted upright as his father mentioned about leaving the kingdom’s safe grounds. Although he knew he deserved the punishment, Ohno was starting to feel fidgety, thinking that the king knew something about his journey to the volcano.

“No,” answered Ohno, obediently eating his food.

After breakfast, Ohno was supposed to be studying with Sho again at the library. The smart merman was busy reading a newspaper, as usual, completely not noticing that Ohno was staring out the window. From the tower’s window, Ohno could see the tip of the fiery volcano, aka the place where he’s heading that night.

“Why are you so interested in the submarine volcano?” asked Sho after finishing his newspaper and noticing that Ohno wasn’t doing his work.

“It’s going to erupt soon, isn’t it?” asked Ohno, remembering that the last time it did was three years ago, meaning there was every chance that it might erupt soon.

“Yes, but the great stone wall will protect us from the lava flow, all we need is to be prepared for the smaller chunks which could reach the city,” informed Sho intelligently.

Ohno continued looking out of the window. The eruptions had been pretty safe, so far, but Ohno wouldn’t like to think about what would happen if he was on the other side of the wall.

“I wonder what would happen if the wall wasn’t there,” sighed Ohno.

“Then the whole city would be buried in the pyroclastic flow, you should see how fast it can travel,” answered Sho.

Ohno nodded and turned back to his book. Since young, everybody thought that he was fearless since he never really scream or yelp whenever somebody tries to scare him. But what they didn’t know was that Ohno was actually freaked out, its just that he didn’t show it.

Swimming to the volcano was starting to feel like a quest not worthy of seeing humans, so Ohno tried to discard the thought. But every time he convinced himself he should give up, an image of that human would pop into his mind, making his drive to go stronger.

Meanwhile, in the Ninomiya Mansion’s study room, two men were busy drinking tea while amending the deal between their respective companies.

“Matsumoto-san,” began Nino’s father, “I do appreciate you doing business with us, especially at a time like this,”

“Don’t mention it, Ninomiya-san,” replied Mr Matsumoto, replacing his teacup, “I see much potential in your company, all I’m doing is giving you a little boost, the rest is up to you,”

Seeing that his business partner’s cup was empty, Mr Ninomiya immediately leapt to his feet and refilled it for him, “This may sound ungrateful of me, but I was wondering why a business in the fashion industry like yours would want to do business we my electronics company,”

Mr Matsumoto took a long sip from his cup. Sighing, he put the cup on the table, “You’re a smart man, I’ll cut the crap,”

Wondering what his associate was up to, Mr Ninomiya sat at the edge of his seat, hoping that he could fulfil Mr Matsumoto’s real reason for helping him when his business was falling into a crisis.

“My Jun has been interested in your Kazunari for quite some time,”
