Beauty and the Beast

I just got cast to play Beast in the Magik Theater's production of Beauty and the Beast. Should be lots of fun. And a good role to do.

Hee. I shall now take some personal glee in the fact of your casting. Go job! Go fun, controversial role in slightly-dodgy fairytale!

It is, after all, one of the more instructive stories for young girls ever written:

Stick with the monster your father forces you to marry and eventually, if you're lucky, he'll turn out to have a hideous past that you'll sympathize with and then he'll understand the True Meaning of love and turn into a prince.

It's silly, but the over-the-top patriarchal themes make me feel comfortable and squishy inside. At least with blatant morals like this tale and Donkeyskin, you know where you stand.

Still, I like the Beast. He's such a pathetic (as in pathos) kind of character- even as you fear him, you sort of pity him, too, and then, when his heart grows three sizes, I always end up rooting him on. AND I bet you get to growl, too, which ought to be quite a lot of fun!

That's fantastic, man. Any chance that one of the shows will be taped? I'd love to see you in this role. I think you'll be fantastic. Any possibility of swordplay?

I think I'll probably get stabbed at some point by Gaston, but that's about all the fighting that will be in the show. As for a tape, I'm honestly not sure. I'll find out as things progress. I don't start rehearsal for another 10 days or so.
