What I read on my hols

As usual, I took a whole pile of books away with me, but this time I read only 3. Mainly because I kept putting the first one down and had to force myself to finish it. I want to write reviews as I'm getting lazy and if I'm ever going to do a PhD, I need to keep my end up.

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

I once took Da Vinci Code on holiday. OMG what a mistake. It was in france too so I couldn't buy any other books. I ended up reading the Bible because it was the onyl other English book I could find.

I honestly thought that part of all the kerfuffle was snooty people being snooty about it. Turns out it actually IS complete bollocks.

You only took one book on holiday? Rookie error!

ONE DAY did the rounds here at work and it turns out it's a total Marmite book - love it or hate it! Unfortunately, I ended up hating it because I didn't like the end. Before that I was fine, even though I really found the main characters so unlikeable.

I was wondering originally if I was too old for it, as the key people who loved it to death were quite a bit younger than me. But I decided it wasn't that. I think I felt the author was cheating the reader. But there ya go.

I couldn't quite believe the awfulness of the DA VINCI CODE. I went to see the film, on the grounds that awful books sometimes translate into watchable films. Not. This. Time.

Ah yes, the ending does grate a little bit but it was such a good read - it really made my plane journey bearable.

You'd probably appreciate the Kermode rant I linked to above if you've seen the film. I haven't, and still enjoyed it! I too was stunned to discover that yes, the book really was as bad as people made out.

That Dan Brown shit drove me absolutely crazy, it's all so very bad, every single bit of it.
