God in sandwich form

I think that today I ate one of the most perfect sandwiches I've had in several months. It brought me back to how joyful an experience it can be to eat a simple sandwich, made with simple but wonderful ingredients. I feel like the official stance on sandwiches these days is that more crazy, herb-infused crap = superior. Not so! I myself have ( Read more... )

Never before has an entry about eating a sandwich been so genuinely interesting and well-written.

Cheese shop! You know, I still have dreams about the Cheese Shop veggie sandwich. Beautiful, wonderful dreams.

I agree. I think one of the most god-like sandwhiches I've ever eaten was also very similar. Italian ciabatta, with prosciutto, basil, and tomatoes - we were in Italy, and strolled along the cobbled pavement of the medieval city. Just so amazingly great.

That sounds incredible. I had a similar-sounding experience with sandwiches pruchased at a train station in Paris and eaten on a train to Venice. I can't even remember what was on them, but between being in Europe and 16 and hungry, they were pretty fucking magical.

Oh, and another magical sandwhich experience was in Vietnam. They have these amazing baguettes, filled with cilantro, pickled daikon radishes and carrots, butter, soy sauce, pate, and various strange cold cuts. I know this probably violates the KISS principle, but it was just the most amazing thing I'd ever eaten! We ate it while we strolled through their open air market and looked at exotic vegetables. Ah, I need to go travel again.
