If you have been living under a rock then you might not know that J.K Rowling has publicly announced that Albus Dumbledore is gay. While this news in no way shocks me (I figured that he was a little bit fairy anyway). It does begin an new, scary precedent. Dumbledore slash ( Read more... )

No offense to Emma or the Harry Potter fandom, but if you think it only took an official announcement to cause slash to happen, bubba, I hope you never go to any fan fiction community, ever. :-P

I figured that there is PLENTY of fan fiction out there. It just that now, it's "official".

Oh, they've been slashing Grindelwald and Dumbledore since Book 7 came out. It was easy. I find her announcement now, after the book's been published and all the sales are in, to be really cowardly. I mean, way to be courageous, announce that the guy who claims to be all about love happens to love another man after the bankroll's deposited, so no matter how bad the Fundies protest, it can't hurt initial sales. I mean, saying he was gay in the book might've taken balls, if she wasn't the wealthiest woman in the world with the most read series in modern publishing history. As it stood, announcing it this late is cowardice, plain and simple.
