I'm all but decided on getting the Dell XPS 420. But the processer are kinda confusing me. I will either go with the quad core or the 3.0 dual core ( Read more... )

Because the quad has 4 processors, it requires more cache to manage processes between them. This also limits the bus speed because more data has to flow through a smaller pipe. The duo doesn't need the extra cache and has the higher bus speed because there's less processor management overhead.

The funny thing about it all is that you get the same performance out of both. Since most heavyweight apps are optimized for dual procs, the quad acts like 2 duals.

I'd say go with the quad core if there's no major price difference, but if there is, go dual. You won't notice the difference unless you're running server apps, graphic design, or video editing.

the price diff is $50.00. Not a whole lot, and I'm not going to be running server apps at all. But I will be running video editing apps.
