This is very exciting, we're in Xi'an! For those that don't know it is the site where in 1974 some peasants digging in a field uncovered a tomb containing 6000 full life size warriors made of terracotta... the first part of the now world renowned Terracotta Warriors find. The train from Datong to Taiyuan was good, we had the two bottom bunks in a soft sleeper cabin and the cabin to ourselves. Matt bought me a "tea jam jar" which is actually a double walled glass thermos with a lid that you make tea in, reusing the leaves several times. We had picked a hotel that was just across from the train station, a good move we thought because we were only stopping for two nights and then leaving by train again. We spent a couple of nice days in Nanjing. The city has a bloody history but we chose not to go to any of the museums. We arrived Friday afternoon and checked into a lovely hotel in the city. The journey was just over 3 hours on the train, in comfy soft seats. The hotel was really nice and the staff very helpful. We tried to book our sleeper train ( Read more... )
