Concert Question

Do you look up set lists before concerts or do you like to be surprised?

For me, it depends on how well I know the source material. I’m not a huge Rush fan (they are growing on me), but I’m seeing them tomorrow night at the State Fairgrounds, so I looked up the set list ahead of time to become more familiar with the songs they’ll be playing.

That's one of those technology things that I wouldn't have thought to look for. From now on, I will look and see if there's a setlist before a concert.

I'm seeing Rush tomorrow too! Where did you find an exact set list? I would like to get more familiar with the songs they'll be playing too. I like them and I know some of the songs, but I'm going with friends who know them better than I.

Never mind, I think I found it. Now I should go and see if I can find the songs on phoenixredux's computer.

I usually look them up. If I haven't gotten around to listening to someone's CD in its entirety, I try to listen to and familiarize myself with the album tracks they're going to be performing before the concert.

Also, so jealous that you're going to see Gaga! Her tickets sold out so fast in DC. :-(

It really depends for me.

I discovered that we got Rush tickets today, and I totally checked out the setlist after I heard about it. I'd hate to go through the show with the hope to hear a particular song and then not hear it. That's especially important with a band with a rich catalog like Rush.

Jealous about the Lady Gaga show; budget wouldn't extend that far (but then, we've got a trip to Dragon*Con at the end of the week).

I highly recommend the 2010 Rush documentary, "Beyond the Lighted Stage." It's on Netflix streaming.

I wasn't even aware this is a thing people do... look up set lists. Huh.

... to elaborate: If I'm seeing a band I know, then I already know the music so there's no point of me looking up a set list. If I'm seeing a band that's new to me, then I just experience the music and knowing a set list won't help me appreciate the concert any more or less.

Then again, I attend concerts for the experience, not to see a certain song played.
