not that I disagree with all of it but "don't perpetuate a culture that tells you that you have no control over or responsibility for your actions" come on now. Chick gets blasted drunk at a frat party, blacks out and has sex with a guy she was flirting with all night, sorry, her fault. Just because you have a vagina does not exclude you from all guilt. . .
I have a vag, and I agree.sterlingmoonsNovember 30 2005, 05:08:31 UTC
I completely agree.
It's probably a better idea for women not to get so drunk that they don't realize what they're doing (or are about to do). It's also a good idea for women to WATCH THEIR DRINKS. People are nasty, and do nasty things. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. That's all I'm saying.
Women aren't always the victims in these situations. For example, I wish I could shoot at point-blank range every college chick who has ever gotten drunk, consented to have sex with some (also drunken) guy, and then thought it better to try to "take it back" by claiming rape. That's not acceptable behavior, and it's also a fine example of personal irresponsibility.
Of course, the American way is to blame everyone else for YOUR OWN mistakes...so why shouldn't rape be any different?

It's a great idea for women to watch their drinks. I do it myself. But if I forget and go to the bathroom without bringing it with me and get slipped roofies, shouldn't it still be a crime for someone to rape me? Why exactly should I be personally responsible for the nasty things other people do?
As for being too drunk to consent, well, that ties up into more complicated issues of consent, like age and mental conditions (or whatever the proper term for that is). I think one can argue where the lines are drawn (17? 18? 16?, things like that) but not that there should be lines. I mean, the whole point is, there are points where a person can't be personally responsible for themselves. I agree with you that a drunk girl who consents wasn't raped, but I do think that someone who is passed out would definitely have been raped. And someone who's awake but puking and can't even remember his or her own name? There's not really anyone there to take the responsibility.

Leaving your cup unattended for a split second while you go to the bathroom, or jogging at 5AM, while not the SMARTEST things to do, shouldn't have to be called MISTAKES and all the blame and guilt be put on the woman. That's what the above is all about. Women who did these things and got raped do NOT deserve people saying, "Well, yeah, of COURSE you got raped, what did you THINK would happen?" That's bullshit. Yeah, personal responsibility is great, but it's not the woman's fault, no matter the circumstances. Ever.
If you were passed out, wasted, sleeping, beligerent and I took your wallet, you would consider me criminal, and this a crime. Why would you consider sex any differently?
