The day after we got back from Oregon, I noticed that there were some funny smudge/scratch-type marks on the lower pane of a window at our house. Attacking their reflection? Well, maybe. My personal guess, though, is that our cat got one of his friends, and now he's declared a vendetta. He hasn't figured out how to get the cat, so instead he has to settle for annoying us until he thinks of something better.

Or perhaps the pecking on the glass is being done in an attempt to lure your cat outside, where he will fall into a Burmese Tiger Trap constructed out of twigs and birdseed.

I was gonna suggest the reflection theory, too. Calling all pets on NPR has discussed this occurance and the animal behavorist lady has explained it with that theory.

As to solutions? If helping the bird kill your cat doesn't work, Maybe toss a mirror somewhere out in the yard near the house but where you don't care about pecking and droppings? Perhaps the stronger reflection of a true mirror will present a more threatening competitor that picture glass does.

I'd also suggest birdie therapy, but I hear bird therapists are spendy, and they demand payment in hard-to-find gourmet bird-seed.
