How funny. We just got back from Hawaii (Kauai). Depending on which island you're going to, we could offer up some ideas on what you could do with kids. Many families with kids of all ages go to HI from AK (at least judging from our flights there), so it certainly seems a kid-friendly family-friendly place.

My parents and grandparents took Matthew and I to Maui when he was 3 and I was 5 months. Other than the fact that Matthew and I both got chicken pox on the way back, a great time was had by all. Two years ago, my cousin and her husband took their 6 and 2 year old girls to Waikiki and they all had fun. Hawaii is a very family-friendly place, and you can't go anywhere there without seeing babies and young children.

There are lots of activities to do with and without kids. Beaches are fun. Some of the islands, like Kauai, have reef-protected shallow areas for little kids to play in. Waikiki has an awesome zoo, and Kauai has a fabulous playground at Lydgate State Park. There are also all the typical things to do, like movies and stuff.
