Here in france it's not mandatory but the majority of the people in this area recycle everything.. every corner of every village or town has an area for recycling.. even the country roads have areas where you can recycle. I'm an absolute recycling fanatic. In Germany it's law.. if one item is found in a bin that shouldn't be there.. the whole thing is tipped out and all people from that neighbourhood have to come and sort it out by hand.. they're very strict. I think it's brilliant cause it makes people be more conscious about what they put where :) it only takes a moment.
Every time I go shopping I see all the packaging for products.. a lot of the packaging isn't necessary.. it's just to push the sale for that item. It's really sad that the sale of a product is more important than giving mother earth a break with all the rubbish that is dumped on her.
Laws about recycling are different all over. It gobsmacks me that people can still open a car window and throw something out...like it somehow disappears. Here we have a recycling pick-up for plastic and aluminium...we have to take the glass, paper and cardboard to the recycling ourselves...and a lot of folks don't. Us ol' hippies have been doing this a looooong time, kept trying to make folks listen.
A lot of us are now taking all the plastic wrapping off right at the checkout counter...telling them to do something with it...perhaps this, on a large scale, would say something to manufacturers.

Do the people in the US have to recycle by law?
