Moved in!

Movers have come, movers have gone, apartment is full of boxes. However, we have a Bed, and it is comfy. And we have two little kitty cats who are not allowed on the bed, and we have a place to keep wine. We still need to get bookcases for all our books, and we still need a desk for the computer. We also need to get rid of all these [bleep]ing ( Read more... )

Congrats!

I would bet that cat litter is not considered compostable, because dog and cat waste harbor pathogens that you don't want to keep in the wet and dark to grow. However, if you use the pine-based cat litter, you can use it as mulch around your plants directly, rather than putting in the compost pile.

No kitties on the bed? What are kitties for, then?

We're just now starting a compost pile. It's so nice to have colleagues with horses and giant manure piles to help get it started!

I second the question about kitties on the bed.. is someone allergic? Or is the bed too small? Admittedly, my tiny cat is able to push me out of the bed sometimes...

Yrs truly is allergic. Cute little monsters, but I can't taste my wine when they've been jumping on me, and that simply won't do.

Apparently some of the wheat based litters (I use Swheat Scoop (http://www.swheatscoop.com/earthframe.html) is compostible for non-food plants.

Welcome to Seattle! Here's a list of what's accepted in your yard and food waste bin. There's also a lookup tool that includes what goes in recycling, compostables, and garbage.

oooo, sweet. Thanks!

Where on campus do you hide out these days? I'm on research for 3wks (now 2.5wks) and have semi-flexible schedule. If you're free sometime, would love to grab coffee or lunch and catch up a bit.

I am out of town until Tuesday, June 9th and I'm in the EE building - it's by the fountain. Let's meet up sometime next week! What kind of food do you like? Thai, Mexican, pho, brats, or just something to wash down the (awesome locally brewed) beer? :)

When we have acres of cardboard, we either have to cut it up into similar-sized pieces and tie it up with string (ha ha, no) or take it to a cardboard recycling center (with annoying hours, but at least you can just fling it in a dumpster).
