I liked how this unfolded, starting a bit in the middle (with an evocative atmosphere) and bringing us around to how the narrator came to be there.
What a terrible thing, to invoke magic you didn't know you had and to be forever in danger of being found afterward. I'm glad she finally stumbled upon the method of undoing while rendering harmless another group of people who were set on taking what didn't belong to them--especially when they didn't need to.
And I'm very happy things worked out for Pat here. :)
Thank you -- I thought a lot about what direction to take this -- both what made sense for the protagonist as well as what would drive someone to leave home, and I think I hit the right balance. I'm happy that it worked for you :)
