Well the time has finally come to retire my poor old car and get a new one. I would love to get an STI, but it is out of my price range. I prefer smaller cars and love the hatchback feature on my old car. So, after some research, I've narrowed my search down to the VW Rabbit or the VW GTI Mk V.

Now, all I have to do is decide if I want to lease or ( Read more... )

My boss has the GTI...its a cute car and has some serious horses under the bonnet....Never lease it as you never own in...thats my opinion.
but i guess it depends on how you also want to deal with it tax time.

I think they hit us with taxes during the purchase time. I've never bought a new car before, so I am not 100% sure.

i'd buy versus leasing. they always get you in the end with the leases.

i saw the new rabbits at the car show as well as the GTI, and to be honest, i actually liked the rabbit better. and the price was excellent.

The Rabbit is very nice. I was surprised at how quick the one I test drove was.

Get a WRX instead of an STI! It's a lot more low profile, but just as fun to drive, with out the price!

Love my STi, but I agree, pick up a WRX if that is closer to your price range. Plus the AWD is awesome if in the winter (I see you are in PA, so you would definitely bebefit from it).

I am not going to spoil your bubble, but I heard they can be a pain to keep up with. The GTI looks cool! Especially if it handles well. So not that my vote really counts. After going through enough business courses I learned that it depends on what you want when you lease or buy. I would see what the terms to their leasing options are. Because if they do not fall with in your parameters then I would go for the buy option. I know I would be totally in trouble with my kid if I was leasing!.

Good luck and happy car deciding.

What bad things have you heard about them? I am just curious.

people I have known to have them say that taking care of them by themselves can be hard. Then again it was mainly the jetta that I heard that with. But with any foreign car you run the risk of parts issues. I am not touting the old standard buy american. Hell the next car I want is an FJ cruiser or 4 door jeep wrangler. So I'd do some research and ask others that own the car what type of issues they have come up with. I know when I bought my current car I was looking for something that would last me roughly about 8 years and it was easy to be worked on.
