I would just like to state, for the record, how sick I am of hearing about people who can't keep their rabbits indoors because their parents won't let them ( Read more... )

It's not all horrible to keep the rabbits outdoors, as long as you keep them sheltered. IfI had to keep my rabbit outdoors I'd get a nice big shed and set that up for them to live in.

Of course, I do feel bad for them. Especially for those who live in areas that get super cold- like my own.

I love letting the babies out in the yard in the grass in the summer/spring and warm fall days =) They loof it too. Those binkies make me squish with happiness.

Oh, I know that it's possible to keep bunnies very well outside... my beef here is that it's easier to dote on them when they're indoors, & if you've got a decent set-up for them outdoors you should say "I keep my buns outdoors & they want for nothing", rather than "I know I should keep them inside, but my parents won't let me"

Y'know?

Yeah.

And it is easier to forget about them if they're outside in the backyard. that's what I was afraid of doing if I ever kept them in the backyard for long periods of time, that I'd forget about them- especially with my busy schedual.

I like them better inside knowing that they're warm and that their food dish is full and their waterbottles aren't frozen.

me too! I can't stand it!
I'm like... that poor bunny! It's not MEANT to live outside! It's parents were probably INDOOR bunnies!
It makes me want to cry.
My parents do not like that I have Marshmallow in the house... but they deal. They would NEVER make me put her out.

Like raising kids, getting pets is easy. Raising and keeping them is more work then most people realize.

Alot of parents think a bunny is stictly a barnyard animal, that will stink up the house or something. Thus the pet has to be kept outside. But, unless thier kid is in 4-h or something, alot of times its just thrown outside in a cage, not handled at all, and fed and watered. Thats it. BUt we all know bunnies can be kept as both indoor and outdoor pets. :)

See... that's the thing. If they were able to adequately provide for their rabbit(s) outside, than they should say something like "Yeah, my rabbit has an outdoor hutch, so suck it!" ;P If they're confidant in their ability to properly care for a rabbit outdoors, then they shouldn't be apologizing for their parents insisting the bun be kept outside, y'know?

I do believe that rabbits can be well cared for outdoors... but I've yet to see that be the case when their "owner" is apologizing for not keeping them indoors.
