They've proven to be good companions and, more importantly, great friends. At this point I find it hard to imagine life without them.
[Though matter of fact, he stresses this a little more than he would have last week - the fact that so many people lost their pokémon in the train hijack isn't lost on him.]

[This is a man that is far too used to using things for his own benefit to really remember the concept of love, though tides maybe very slowly shifting.]
[Well, really, what else is he supposed to think of them? One of his Pokémon is essentially a sentient bomb with a face. Of course they're weapons.]
Everything does seem centered around them here, often moreso than it is around humans - I've definitely noticed this. Though it really doesn't confuse me in terms of exactly what their place is; doesn't it make sense to treat one's soldiers well? It encourages devotion to their cause, and devotion to their cause will encourage loyalty to those who provide that cause.

Fear can do exactly the same thing. The fact these creatures are coddled to the point of domestic pets both confuses and astounds me, considering their power.
To me that is the same as cuddling a live gun. I do not understand it.
Well, I can tell that my Pokemon relies on me, and wants to help me, and I feel the same way. We enjoy each other's company, and we work well together. I definitely think of her as a friend. Why is that foolish?

They're my friends. I couldn't imagine going back home without them.

[It could easily be just a way to not sound like an uncaring ass considering what happened barely a week ago, but it could be a genuine statement.]

But that doesn't make it any less true.
[This is a man who loves his pokémon. Now he's curious as to whether this anon texter does.]

This is what I think also. They are very heavily integrated into this world though, it is very confusing to give them placement.

That is why it sounds foolish- is not as if creature can communicate coherently with you after all.
