Retail burnout
I've heard about people who have worked for decades in retail, and for the life of me I really can't understand how that's possible. I've been working at OfficeMax for over fifteen months now, and every day is a struggle to not walk in, toss my little namebadge on the manager's desk and walk out. Early this morning I head a knock on my mental door. "Who is it?" I asked.
On the other side of the door was Midlife Crisis. "We need to talk." He said.
"Can't this wait?" I said. "I have work right now and family stuff soon!"
"No." he said flatly. "It can't."

Well, I can finally let the good news out...
For the better part of the last year my job status hasn't been the best: Either employers have decided my position is redundant and don't even have the common courtesy to fire me, or they did the 'oh yeah, we have a great job for you. Today I applied for a job that I never would have considered before: TV show co-host! I saw the posting, an initially blew it off: 'Dude, you're a chunky middle-aged guy who looks like life slapped you in the face with the flat end of a snow shovel.' I said to myself. 'Who'd want YOU on TV?'

New job, new attitude...
It occurs to me that I've been working at my new job for the better part of a month without telling you about it. Well, here I'm correcting that.
