Some of Merc's Lock Eye relatives have ears like that... huge! Sorry about your sadness, damn dogs steal our hearts and then they don't live long enough...
It is fantastic that those senior dogs found such loving homes for their last years, but it's always sad to see them go. :( Spokk is so cute, such the perfect name too!
I am so grateful for people willing to adopt the oldies. Each time I got one (and technically I had 3 over the age of 10 when they came into foster), I thought I'd have them for the rest of their lives, and I was ok with that, they were all three amazing dogs. But each time some fantastic family stepped up, and I couldn't have been happier. Spock was sweet, but also a sass. His favorite thing was to play fetch and bark at you until you threw the ball for him. FAVORITE THING.
You are right. Even when their lifespan is "normal," it's not long enough, let alone when they're taken away early.
Spock was actually named by a different volunteer. I thought it was hilarious, but maybe not serious enough, but then every time I thought about it I laughed, so it just stuck. And yes, more options for heartache, though I really feel more sad for the families than I do for myself.

Oh leukemia, we have seen way too many young dogs recently with it. One dog is too many. I'm sorry.
They truly do not live long enough, ever.

I'm sorry you're sad. It's a great thing you're doing for these dogs but it certainly does open you up to heartache, eh?
