I know, right? I never thought about how crating the dogs in the basement might be dangerous. :( It just seemed like the coolest spot, and safest from the usual bad storms/tornadoes. *sigh*
I heard about all this LAST NIGHT and I was hoping you weren't in the path. But it sounds like you were. Wow... I know you guys are used to water. but ... where will it go? does it flow to the lakes and then even out? Horrible. Poor crated Riley.
Yes, it will just drain to the lakes and it will be fine. We're not used to rain like this, though, I tell you. Some coastal cities that get hurricanes might get up to 10 inches or so over a few days for a bad storm, but we're pretty protected from that sort of thing here. This was just weird.
Our weather too has been weird, we do not have flash floods, just not our thing, but yesterday on the mountain, wow. And the humidity here, also not our thing, and the heat, day after day of heat, all new to us. I'm with you, the weather patterns are changing and I also think we will only be seeing much more in our future.
We're actually having a cool summer. They predicted that, though, with the very cold winter we had, the lakes really haven't warmed up much yet, and they're acting like a giant refrigerator. We normally have more 90+ degree days. I'm sorry you guys seem to be getting our heat and humidity instead. Even worse, I'm sorry for the fires, ugh.
Wow, flooding is so scary. Yes this climate change is crazy.
It's so interesting how rainfall affects regions differently. Last month, our house got 5 inches over a fe w hours and nothing really happened. But we have had flooding with less rain.
I know, it's been interesting (in a horrified sort of way) to follow this storm, too. It gained strength and dropped 8-13 inches on the east coast.
It was such a localized thing here for me. The town where I work got about an inch of rain, and was fine. The storm was sort of narrow and focused.
Here, they build infrastructure to outlast "20 year storms" which might drop 3 inches of rain in a day or so. So this clearly was outside that, and there are entire neighborhoods who had massive sewer backups, you can tell by the stacks of belongings being carried out to the curb.
Out on the east coast, where hurricanes are an issue, they're supposed to build infrastructure to match (plus the storm surge is always an issue on an ocean coast). I've never seen a storm like the one we got Monday this far inland (and this far north). It reminded me of the storms we got in Louisiana. It wasn't violent, just rain, going on, and on....
Seems like the "100 year events" are happening rather frequently lately...
Glad you are OK. That much rain is very scary. Even in rainy Seattle, there is no way our systems could handle that, 2" of rain in a day is flooding everything around here.
It was scary, and a bit surreal. I think the fallout is going to be slow for us all to understand. Fortunately, it looks like there will be FEMA help for the towns that were most seriously affected. As the water recedes, it actually looks like most of the roads were minimally damaged, but some are warping a bit as they dry out.
