There's a Ghost in my house...

When you've lived in an old house for a few years you become attuned to the noises it makes. That click...click... click... every so often is the heating pipework expanding and contracting. That couple of thumps every 15 minutes is the refrigerator compresor shutting down. The occasional rattle - specially when it's raining - is a bit of soot ( Read more... )

I am totally perplexed too.

Only thing I can think is that during some of the warmer evenings last week I was leaving the back door open until I went to bed.

Heh, we get a few in the house every year.. The cats tend to bring them in from the pond, through the cat-flap to "play" with.
That usually results in me waking up in the middle of the night to a series of godawful screeches from the poor thing, me zipping down stairs (also naked) to rescue it and return it to the pond :/

Awful noise to wake up to ><
I can imagine random scuffling in ones own room would drive me potty.

No cats or cat-flaps here. And yes I know the pitiful scream of a traumatized frog is like a minor-key version of the sort of wailing-of-tortured-souls you'd expect as the soundtrack to Hades.
