Among other things I’ve been enjoying about being in a house now and not an apartment is getting to try out some DIY stuff I’ve been curious about for a while now, starting with melt and pour soapmaking, and adjacent.

From what I can find, Bramble
Berry is the best resource for supplies for both, at least in the US, probably with Candlescience as secondbest. They might just be the ones best at being affiliates for the various blogs and tutorials I’ve been reading, though the soapmakers forum I’ve been checking out seems to also hold to that.

Apparently if you give yourself a quarter inch cut along the knuckle of the thumb of your dominant hand (I lost a battle with sheet metal at work) the doctor gets REALLY serious about not bending your thumb for at least 72 hours...

Moving cleanout update
As explained in this post I'm hoping to rehome some books and DVDS somewhere besides Goodwill before moving in November. I've updated the list a lot, including most manga* (I think there's still a box in storage) and DVDs. RL rant
7 months ago I went to my apartment manager with a problem with my bathtub and after about 3 weeks of my going back every couple of days and being told "we haven't been able to look yet" they just said they weren't going to do anything because it wasn't leaking on my downstairs neighbor. Moving cleanout
I will be moving in November* (largely out of necessity-doctor told me to move to a downstair apartment a few years ago for my knee, but finances don't really care about doctor's orders, but also because I really can't take this apartment anymore) which means that 13 1/2 years of accumulated STUFF has to be sorted through and partly gotten rid of ( Read more... )
