I'm contemplating whether I want to get a regular flu shot. All they'll have next month is the nasal spray, injectables in December. No word whether staff will get h1n1 at all.

Never had a flu shot so kinda on the fence about it. I feel it would be better is I did things like: get enough sleep, eat healthy, wash my hands, avoid touching my face, etc. Also, since the vaccine is in such short supply I wonder if I really should get it. After all, I am outside of the age range/healthy.

only you know what is right for you. for me, because of the asthma and working with the public it is best that i get vaccinated. sleep, healthy eating, handwashing and not touching your face are all good precautions and will defenetly help your odds with not contracting the flu.

what i find strange is that h1n1 is the strain of flu that is currently making the rounds and yet that vaccine is in short supply. The seasonal flu, which the media is scaring people with, really won't hit WI until Jan - March, so it is ok to wait to get that vaccine.

That's good to know. I wasn't sure if I really wanted to get the nasal version. Since, as you say, the seasonal flu doesn't hit til later it would be ok to wait for the injection.

Given your circumstances it's good you got the H1N1. I always forget you have asthma and well, working in the hospital can't be the best place to avoid the flu ; )

Keep me updated on reactions to the vaccination... I'm allergic to everything and feel like I would probably catch H1N1 from the vaccine (I guess my dad did when swine flu came around in the 70s).

well, it has been four almost five days and I am still healthy and symptom free. go me!

If you have gotten sick from past vaccinations, I would probably stay away from the vaccine.
