I just found out our store is going to get those LARGE self-checkout lanes, the ones for entire basketsful of stuff, instead of express orders. If people can't figure out how to use the REGULAR fast lanes, how are they supposed to use the LARGE fast lanes??

I almost sort of hope customers don't figure out how to use them - so they'll be nice and empty when I have 12 or more items, just like how I know now that there will always be an empty U-Scan no matter how many people are in the regular express lanes.

Granted, this is because I don't have to run the darned things. Sympathy for the cashiers. -_-

I don't have to run them either : )

I just wonder how LONG the stores are going to have them before they figure out what a crappy idea they are, and then spend all that EXTRA money having them REMOVED. I'm so GLAD Meijer has all this money to waste, when they keep cutting labor hours.

Don't forget the registers out at the gas station that are about four models behind the ones inside the store, and still running Win95...

If my store is going to get those new self-checkout lanes, maybe we'll be lucky enough to get a couple of the regular registers sent out to the gas station when they're not needed anymore? Unless the company would rather pawn them and let us reboot our crappy ones several times a day. What, Meijer money-grubbing? :D

Those were my precise thoughts and comments when I read about the large-order self-checkouts in "The Center Aisle News." I can already hear people bitching about having to wait so long, and I can see the lines backing up. And I'm not even a cashier. I hope they keep the 12 items or less U-Scans in place, though. It's nice to zip through a U-scan if I have a couple of things to pick up after work, rather than wait forever in a regular lane. Just think about where we work and you have the answer as to why Meijer is doing this.

In our store, they're taking out the regular express lanes on the GM side of the store to add these stupid large self-checkouts. I wonder if they're even going to HAVE regular express lanes on that end now? I sure hope so, cuz the service desk is on the GM side of the store, and so many people currently get pissy when we say we can't ring them up at the desk (they took out our register when they remodeled last year.. WOOHOO!!)

Welcome to a disaster. We've had the large U-scans for about a month and a half now. Aside from having the same issues that the small Fastlanes (U-scans, whatever) in the sense they freeze during transactions and reboot at random times, there are no redeeming qualities to having them in any store. We (store #160) have four on the GM side, and ten on the Grocery side (four big, six small) so balancing that stuff in the Cash Office was quite the delight for the first two weeks. ::JOY::
