These are role models?

So I've kept my mouth shut about the stupid meme of the mom who took pictures of her daughter posed as famous women. But, well, gonna explode. So ( Read more... )

I could have put "and a plagiarist" instead of Goodall, but it isn't clear whether that was her fault or her co-author's.

well it looks like the mom did what she wanted to rather than what a five year old wanted for her birthday I think that is the problem. (yes each of those people have deep problems but the whole feet of clay thing, well except for coco her clay went up to her crotch)

On the other hand I wonder about my mother letting me be in order, Media, wendsday Addams, Maddy Ross, Laura inglas wilder, ginger Rodgers, Lucretia Borgia, Marlina Dietrich. but hey I picked them.

I think the important things are A) you picked them, and B) no one was holding them up as "models of empowerment" for a five year old. Dress-up is fun. I'm all for it. That's not how this is being packaged, and it p!$$e$ me off.

Well, for one, don't use your daughter for an art project. Grrrr.

That said, I thought the last picture (with the "Emma for President" buttons) was the right idea. Dress her up as a political activist (promoting something EMMA believes in--maybe complete with signs), as a designer (find out what the tools of a designer are, and use them for props--no harder than getting the right costumes, no?), as a pilot (or race car driver, or explorer), as a scientist (the kind EMMA finds interesting, which might not be the same type as Goodall). Not sure how to do a "Keller"--how does one demonstrate perseverance over adversity visually in a "one-shot"? But, well, you get the point.

As an "art project" it's pretty cool (Mom's a good photographer, Emma is pretty, the images are lovely)--as a moral lesson, which is how everyone I've seen is going on in praise about it, it's horrible.
