Human powered energy - an idea to capitalise India's biggest resource - our population ?

Aug 15, 2007 21:25

The many news articles that I read about India at 60, got me thinking.

While crossing madivala sabzi market, I thought it would be great if our nation's huge human capital could work towards generating energy - it would solve a few critical problems

- shortage of power
- employment for a lot of rural unskilled labour

I liked the idea a lot, and was ( Read more... )

This is great indeed, the best thing to do of course is to use the energy created there and then instead of transmitting it back to any power station for sharing as the energy generated will be negligible at least by my imagination. Also, a verry happy independence day to you as well!! (http://mumbaibuzz.blogspot.com/)

sun > grass >cattle > musclepower >energy

very inefficient.

Better is sun > energy with a 4% efficiency. Or sun > plants > burn dried leftovers.

I agree this is inefficient & solar / nuclear / wind energy would be much better, but they are expensive to procure - the machinery isnt cheap.

cost of equipment to convert sun > energy is much higher ... than that of the simple bullock cart machine.

If humans do it - there are the added benefits of
staying fitter & having an employment.
