I'm not dead yet. I'm blogging my craftiness for {craftgasm}, but not even very often on that. I need to get better at posting at least twice a week in order to help build the business.  And, you know, so that people don't wonder about my state of aliveness.

I'm sure the DC Freecycle list will have a breadmaker, or any thrift store ever. Also, you can use the no-knead bread recipe that's similarly awesome.

Unrelatedly, my breadmaker kneaded the bread so much it fell off my counter and cracked the cover off. (It kneads the dough by twirling it around in a rough fashion... perhaps too rough?) Not sure if it works now. Sigh.

Good to know! Maybe I will start having the DC one delivered to my inbox again rather than checking online...

how lovely that you live near farms now! Have you moved to the suburbs of the city then? When you make bread, buy special bread flour or it is not very good, it is called 'Strong Plain Flour' over here...

We still live in the city; the farm share comes to us from a farm just over the Maryland border in Pennsylvania, about two hours away.

Good to know about the bread flour! I shall keep that in mind and not get all-purpose flour. :)

That's great that the farm share drives in then!
Yes, try and get the special flour. It was a revelation when I first used it!
Normal flour gives bread a sort of cakey texture, but the strong flour gives you bigger air bubbles in the bread. It has more gluten and holds up the texture of the bread more, you see.
