I'm not sure if it's like this in your country, but in South Africa there are people who stand at almost every intersection to a) beg, b) sell something, or c) hand out flyers. It's particularly tricky when all three are at an intersection and I am constantly paranoid that I am going to hit someone someday

Back when I lived in Los Angeles, a trip to Hollywood was always fraught with the danger of being accosted by random Scientologists, but here in Idaho (also known as Howling Nowhere), we don't have many street vendors or purveyors of much of anything.
