I've been away from LJ for some time. I've been working on books and writing flash fiction and trying to keep my house in order, both physically and psychologically. I think, perhaps, this space might help me do that.

Busting my Ass
Several years ago, I went to my doctor because I had terrible pain in sacro-iliac joint. He told me it would get better if I lost weight, which infuriated me, because I'd had this particular problem since I was 23 and injured myself running. I was all of 125 lbs. Good things
Hey there! Things are looking up. The yahoos in Congress decided they'd had enough bad press, so they restarted the government. Check back in January, though, as they're already threatening to repeat this genius stunt. At least we can get through the holidays, and now have great incentive to not over-buy ( Read more... ) -
Sunday in autumn is for...
...cleaning up the yard, harvesting what's left, transplanting herbs, making tomato and apple sauces, watching football, and knitting. In just about that order. So here I go, off to it.

Progress
We has achieved it. As I believe the Great Porch Project is half done, it is likely one-third finished. Either way, we feel better about it. Because we started with a wobbly, rotten-underneath, warped deck end.

Not writer's block...
but the fervent desire to get this book "right" is making writing said book difficult. It's not that I've forgotten how to write, or I don't know what happens next (because I never know what happens next, though I do know what needs to happen at some point). Mental health day = exhaustion = perfect
Almost every "day off" I take is dedicated to playing catch up with the shit that I can't keep up with whilst holding down a job. Today, that meant planting in the boxes, where some stuff grew but not all of it. So, I reseeded carrots and onions and bush beans. I also planted two kinds of basil, climbing beans, and edamame. I'm back
From time to time, I go to ground, usually because something's going on in my head that I don't feel like discussing, which tends to mean withdrawing from most social situations, even on line. I did not make the semi-final round for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. Alas. I am still waiting for my Publisher's Weekly review, which I hope will be decent enough that I can use a blurb from it.
