I don't think you'll have to give up all fruit. Probably bananas, pineapple, and those with a high gylcemic index. Berries should be ok and it looks like citrus is in the same classification as berries, so they might be ok too. I had a seminar with a nutritionist and she said she doesn't even limit fruit for her diabetes patients at all b/c of the health benefits of fruit, so you may be fine there. The bigger culprit is usually refined white fours, white bread, white rice, and sweeteners of any kind - from plain sugar to honey, maple syrup and even organic sugars. If you like some sweetened things, ask if you could use dates, which are a fruit. I don't know if they would be ok or not, but you can process them in a blender or food processor and they are actually quite sweet (we used them in homemade ice cream and there was no funky aftertaste or anything.) Also stevia could be an option since it's sweet (used sparingly - can become bitter if too much is used) but the body doesn't process it as sugar. I had to eliminate all "sugary" ( ... )

*hugs* Where are you doing the birthing classes? My parents used to teach Lamaze classes, and I vaguely remember being scared of them. Mostly because I was about three, and would come downstairs to see all these strange people in the living room making weird noises.

My sister-in-law had gestational diabetes. The main way it impacted her was that she had to walk right after she ate, to help her body digest. If you do have diabetes, I can certainly give you her email address.
