I commented on Dean's blog that it's clear that according to our Social Principals this war should never have started, but that it's less clear about what we should do now that the war has started.
That's a good point. I fall into that category...personally, I don't think we should have started the war. But now that we're in, I lean to the side of we need to fix the mess we've made.
Mmm, while I agree that we should never have gone to war in the first place I disagree that it is time for us to pull out right now. I believe we must first fix the mess we caused... and have we done that as fully as we should... I'm not so sure.
Yeah. I'm not one to fully follow politics and whatnot, but the general impression I have is that things are highly unstable over there. Yet...we can't make the Iraqi people dependant upon us...
I'd agree with coonkat. I've ben posting this type of thing on my other blog for some time. While we should never have gone to war, we did, we caused a massive mess, and now we need to clean it up now. At the moment, there's approximately %20+ of the Iraqi community which would be ungovernable (and are iungovernable) were we to leave. Things would get far worse, I think, if we left before Iraq had a stable, workable governement. The constitution is a goodd start, but we're not done yet.
The other thing that bothers me....what about the troops? I mean, I support the troops, but at the same time, I don't want to invalidate their service to our country. Not believing in the war, while not equivalent to not supporting the troops, does in some small way undermine what they are doing over there. And I don't want to devalue their service.
Why so? I honor the troops for their service, and have sent Christmas stuff over there, given to the USO, etc. You can't expect me to give up my political and moral convictions just because they've become inconvienant.
