No more TV!

I haven't felt much like writing lately. Between recovering from my sinus infection and a whole slew of other things that have sent my brain into a quagmire, sitting down to write something reasonably intelligent was rather low on the priority list ( Read more... )

That compulsion goes away the more you watch TV. I lived alone for many years and pretty much had to have the TV on for background noise. Commercials just aggravate me now because they're loud, abbrasive, and rarely offer a product I even would think about needing. Very seldom do they make me want anything though. Perhaps if they were more enjoyable in their own right, they would.

For me, it was just the shock of going from relatively little television to over 12 hours of it every day. Yikes!

Not having cable really changed my TV watching habits, now the only things I watch are PBS (no commercials) and movies/shows we rent/download.

On the rare occasion that I do end up watching something on a channel with commercials I don't feel the need to buy the products - I feel really annoyed that they'd interrupt my show for this junk.

That's what I'd slowly like to do: watch good TV series off of Netflix and/or pick two or three shows per season to watch exclusively. Except for sports. Sports do get watched.

The important thing about commercials is that you REALIZE all this. Which you do.

TV in general gets the big middle finger from me anyway.

There really isn't a lot on that's worth watching most of the time. I'm always amazed by the fact that I have 40 channels, and rarely there's something on that interests me. The same phenomenon occurs when I'm in an evironment with over 200.

Much like in real life, I am wont to get sucked in to any show that involves food or shiny things. HGTV, TLC, and (duh) Food Network would be my downfalls (as probably would Spike, Sci-Fi, and Cartoon Network.)

But I don't have a TV! So it doesn't matter. Take that, media conglomerates!
