Facebook's constant ads for diets and engagement rings are starting to offend me. Every now and then there are ads for homes for sale or jobs, but it's mostly Hollywood style diets and freaking rings. It's untargeted and patronizing ( Read more... )

Clearly the advertising profiling engine in Facebook is badly broken and seems to have assigned us both most unattractive stereotypes and then tried to fulfil our desires. I'm sure somebody out there is getting the adverts aimed at people who don't live in trailers and spend all day respectively dreaming of meeting a sugar daddy or masturbating to internet porn. Probably, now I think about it, it will be the people who do live in trailers and spend all day respectively dreaming of meeting a sugar daddy or masturbating to internet porn...

I get Hollywood diets sometimes, and yet I also get Christian dating services, which makes no sense.

Yeah that was odd. I don't have anything on my page about Obama. But I did date a black guy for 6 years. Do they know that somehow? Creepy!

I get ads for photographers and to watch Cops online. They're pretty much on-target for me.

(I've also got in touch with people I knew from summer camp in junior high! But I refuse to play the games. Am I wrong?)

I used to refuse to play the games, but James really wanted me to play the racing one. It's mindless fun.
