Okay, this is totally random. But while I was studying for gender issue in sociology, I kind of came across with this thought. Which, the pretty much only relation between the study and my wonder is the word "gender", but anyway

English is mine and I'm sure I confuse those who do speak English as their first language. Your English is really good. I've never really thought about it but aren't most of the names male? Michael, Raphael, Lucifer etc. Since Anna became human I would think she is female now unless she goes back to neutral since she's an angel again.
Thank you. I'm practicing, but writing in English is always not easy as speaking it..grammar and all..:)
Anyway, regarding the names..I added the site that explained this, but I think the names of Angels were what was speculated by men. Those who wrote the bible or practice the religion I mean..I don't think the name would much matter to the Angels.
For Anna, yes since she was reborned or whatever when she "fell from grace", so she was a woman but I'm not sure when she got her grace back and became an Angel. The body..she's not "Anna" anymore..right?
Angels are classed as genderless in the bible but the bible is overly masculine, unless the women played a key roll in life, Eve, Mary, Mary Magdalin etc. so the names of the angels are masculine. Its something to do with less temptation as women are suppose to be bad news and tempt men, but then again Angels are genderless, the bible has a lot of conflicting points, it is confusing if you read it but it's all in there and we have to take some of it at face value i think. I've had the discussion of gender and the bible and angels and the way women are portrayed within it so many times with my Priest. I was raised Catholic too and i believed the parts I was taught and then I reread it when I was 19 and realised how much school had left out. I think the idea of Anna as an Angel is that she was there to tempt Dean but also forgive him as that is a womens roll if that makes sense?

I think that's interesting. Because I kind of hoped..since Anna already said "I'm an angel", I hoped she would act less human but more like an angel and actually say "I forgive you", 'cause that may helped Dean. Instead, she acted like a human more than any other characters and had a sex with him..That is why I wasn't convinced with her appearance and didn't really like her.
I quite liked her, she forgave him for everything in a way Dean would understand i think, she was a humanised angel who knew what Dean needed which was love and forgiveness, to help him open up, to let him no its ok to make mistakes. it is an interesting topic of convo tho.
I always thought that Arch-angel Gabriel was male, and therefore all angels where male (since it is the catholic church after all). I'm guessing though that when they inhabit a vessel they are aware of what the person is thinking and had felt.
Emm..I'm not so sure about Gabriel being male, but most people seems to think so. I'd like to stick to the theory about how angels are genderless, but rather biased by human standards. After all, they'd have like to think angels are male since that time they thought females were pretty much lesser being than males. But then again, we see lots of portraits of angels being women...
That's...interesting. You know, although I'm a Catholic, I think I've never was interested in Angels. I found bibles were interesting and did some research on historical evidences and stuff but I never thought much about Angels..
But then SPN sort of gave the vibe and if the show goes deeper with the angle's myths I'd very like to research more like you did. :)
plus, you were working on the novel that involves angels? wow! How did that go?

Well Anna is certainly not like the others since she's the only one that knows what it was like to be human. I do wonder if she'll be back.

They have a set of wings to cover their nakedness. A pair to cover their eyes (when before God) and a pair to fly with. It was such a wierd image.
