Melon Field 5 [Chris]

Jul 08, 2008 23:48

The nearest melon field is a short trip to the north. But despite its proximity to the town, the forest quickly thickens, and this melon field sits in a perfect weedless square, looking odd against the wild bushes all around it. Squirrels and bears rabbits occasionally skirt about, though they flee at the first sign of people. Some sunlight ( Read more... )

Hayate peered intently at Blue #4. "An unbreakable melon... I bet if I were to break it, I could get a reward." But how did one go and break the unbreakable? Hayate sat down, pondering how to possibly break open the melon. Maybe a hammer? But that just seemed... cliche. Besides, where would he get a hammer? Perhaps a sword... but again, where?

Maybe it was only a rumor and they really were breakable? It would definitely be a good idea to test. Reaching out, he knocked on the shell of the melon, testing to see how hard it was. "Let's see..."

Blue #4 moves from the force of the knocks, but nothing else happens.

Alarmed, Hayate jumped back, watching the melon move, cautious if anything else happened. As nothing did, he sighed, then laughed. "Haha... N-Nothing's going to happen if I break it open... right? It's not like there's something in there... right?"

Putting aside his doubts, Hayate picked up the melon and tossed it into the air. He had quickly figured out that his strength and endurance had been way above average, especially after being hit with a guitar and being perfectly fine. Maybe he trained before he came here? As the melon came down he took a deep breath, readied his hand, and lashed out, attempting to split the melon down the middle...

The melon went flying in the direction in which it was hit, but it stayed in one piece and landed with a heavy thump.

"Iiiyaaa!!!" Hayate grabbed his hand in pain at the impact on the melon. That thing was HARD!! Melons definitely shouldn't be this hard! That thing was no melon, it was a rock! Or a lump of metal. Or something hard that definitely was not fruit. But melons shouldn't be blue anyways, so it was probably a dumb idea to pick that one. They probably filled the whole field with melon shaped rocks, that's why they were unbreakable.

Now red, that was a melon color! Hayate approached the 4th red melon and then attempted the same procedure, tossing the melon up and attempting to slice it in twain with all his strength.

A winner is Hayate! The melon bursts as Hayate's hand makes contact.

[[Hayate gets 2% of his memories back.]]

Blinking, Hayate looked at his pulp covered hand, pulp covered clothing, and could feel the pulp on his face. He had intended to split it clean down the middle... not splatter it all over the place. This was disgusting...

It was as disgusting as that time he was forced to dress as a catgirl... Wait, what time? He... remembered that? He remembered it!! But... what a disturbing memory...

Reaching down, he picked up a fragment of the melon rhine that still had some pulp and scooped a little out with his fingers, tasting it. It was sweet, very sweet, and juicy. He searched the ground, picking up any solid, not dirty, melon pieces that he could find, planning to take them back to his room. Maybe he could sell it...

*turns around, covered in splattered melon*

Oh, you mean break this? I just tossed it in the air and chopped it open. But I wouldn't try it if I were you, these things are hard. I was able to do it because I train!

A-Ah, no, that's not it. I'm just saying that I train my body, so I'm more suited to handle it. I'm sure you're not frail at all!
