Melon Field 5 [Chris]

The nearest melon field is a short trip to the north. But despite its proximity to the town, the forest quickly thickens, and this melon field sits in a perfect weedless square, looking odd against the wild bushes all around it. Squirrels and bears rabbits occasionally skirt about, though they flee at the first sign of people. Some sunlight ( Read more... )

Lenalee had had it up to here [see: neck] with melons. This time, though, she thought she could do something that wouldn't result in injury. ...She was still limping, anyway.

She walked over to green melon 2 and picked it up, staring at it a bit.

"I'm not kicking this one." She said it more to remind herself than to enlighten the melon. Lenalee had been paying attention recently (hard not to when you're stuck in a melon field for a few hours because of, well, pain) and she had a new plan.

She carried the melon off and first tried two things: dunking it in the lake and plopping it into the ocean.

The melon did not break from either attempt.

Well, she wasn't out of ideas. She took it to the restaurant first, intent on putting it in the sink there, and if that didn't work she'd try the sink and bathtub back at the apartments.

The melon remains as whole as ever.

She wasn't above washing the melon, either, and she also let the cats lick it a bit. The melon amused them.

At least it amused somebody.

If melons were sentient, this one would also be amused. But it's not about to break.

Lenalee thought that maybe all the melons were against her. She knew this had worked for other people.

It was frustrating, and since the melon was now on the floor, she forgot herself and gave it a good solid kick.

...Needless to say, that action gave her the idea of crying on the melon.

Nope. Neither kicking nor crying will work on this melon.

Well, the apartment had a kitchen, and the kitchen had all sorts of things in it. ...But she tried boiling it first. Lenalee was starting to feel quite vengeful toward this melon.

And if boiling failed, she'd get milk and juice out of the fridge and try those. ...And ice, too.

And the melon bursts when immersed in the boiling water.

[[Lenalee gets 2% memories.]]

...It wasn't pleasant being covered in boiling melon insides.
