I actually had an issue I'd never seen before the other day, and that I would have suspected the user of being a liar or crazy if I hadn't confirmed it myself.

Someone came to me because a particular Word document wouldn't print. I advised her to try a different printer, and when she did, the document printed, but there was a second (older) letter superimposed on the first one. I had her email me the document, and I had the same problem -- wouldn't print on printer A, and printed the phantom letter on printer B.

I noticed there was an object anchor on the document, so I deleted it. The document now printed correctly. I copied the object to a fresh Word document, and saw a blank page on the screen, with a highlighted but (apparently) blank object. I tried to resize or reset or do anything to the object, but all of Word's object controls were grayed out. I printed the "blank" document and got a printout of the phantom letter.

It was very strange.

An entire document, "Dear Mr. Smith...". In normal 12-point Tahoma font, something like four paragraphs long.

I've often been guilty of the "well, it works fine for me, so you must be an idiot" attitude.

I don't know what you did, but you did *something* to fork up that application beyond all recognition. Really. It was something you did.
