When it comes to sermons I think there's plenty of examples in real life, rather than movies, that can be used to illustrate Biblical principles. Actually that should be turned on its head: Biblical principles can easily be applied to real life.

Very true! I would definitely agree with you. There are many occasions where a discussion of movies can turn into a discussion of God (or, at least, like you said, make it clear to people that you do have morals). It can be a common ground or meeting point with nonchristians.
The church, however, is not a place for evangelizing with secular movies. That is not to say that a pastor may never mention a movie, but movies should not be the foundation for a sermon. The Bible should.
