[It had been a very pleasant date up to then. Watson had been more surprised that she said yes. He'd done his absolute best to be a gentleman all night because really, he considered her a lady in every sense of the word. Made him feel like he had the mentality of a street urchin but she didn't seem to mind.

He'd gone ahead to flag down a taxi as she got her coat in the restaurant. What he hadn't counted on was one of Sherlock's nemeses planning a different end to the evening. Once a taxi had stopped, it was plowed right into by an SUV, crashing right against Watson before the offending car zoomed off into the dark London streets.

Leaving behind a smashed up taxi, dead driver, and an unconscious Watson pinned under the car.]

Oh, noo! mmorstan January 27 2012, 15:47:30 UTC
[She couldn't possibly understand how he saw her as such a lady, since she had always lived and acted so modestly, but no matter. She liked him a lot, and hasn't stopped smiling the entire evening.

As soon as she heard the crash from inside the restaurant, she winced, and immediately sensed that something had gone terribly wrong. In a panic, Mary pushed through the now frantic crowd, hurrying out of the building, mobile phone in hand, already calling for help. She saw the SVU drive away first, then her eyes found the taxi, then --]

John! [Her heart just stopped as she rushed to his side. Already, men were pushing at the car, good Samaritans, while Mary looked for signs of life.] Oh, John, please ...

[It figured. Months of complaining that nothing ever happens to him and now this was his life.

He's got blood running down from a gash above his forehead, presumably where he hit the pavement going down. His legs are under the crushed taxi but amazingly not broken. Of course, you can't tell that till he's gets pulled out, hopefully someone has called an ambulance.

He's properly knocked out, not responding to her voice or her hands as she reached for him, but he was still breathing. There didn't seem to be anything outwardly life threatening at the moment.]

[Mary vaguely felt someone take her phone to call for an ambulance, another telling her that her husband should be okay, though the taxi driver won't be - and she didn't even bother correcting the assumption, too distressed and too focused on making sure John would be okay.

There was a squeeze at her shoulder and she finally glanced up at one of the waiters who had rushed out, handing her the phone. The ambulance had been called]

John - John, they're on their way. [Her voice was shaky, but soothing, and she refused to leave his side, as much as anyone insisted she sit somewhere nearby. And once the medics arrived, she could hear a lady bark at someone that they had better let his wife sit there with him.]

[The fire department isn't far behind, working to get the car off of John safely. It's not till they've gotten him free and put him on a stretcher that he starts coming around.

There's activity around him, he is just vaguely aware of that. The thing he's most aware of is the splitting headache he's got. His head lolls to the side as a not-coherent noise escapes him "...hnn~..." Having not a clue what happened. He's laying on something soft and someone keeps trying to put something plastic over his nose and mouth, to which Watson tries to put up a hand to take it off, not realizing it's an oxygen mask.

[Having lost an argument with a medic, Mary was in a taxi just behind him, highly anxious, clutching to her phone like it is going to tell her something. She bounced her foot, wringing her hands in her lap. She tried to be calm; after all, he is under professional care right now.]

Please hurry. [She said to the driver, her voice barely audible. But, soon, she found herself at the front of the hospital, leaving the driver a hefty tip before rushing in in search for him.]

[They're just pulling him out of the ambulance as she runs up. He's got his eyes closed but it's apparent he's awake and in pain from the grimace on his face. The paramedics tell her to keep back a bit, but they do let her stay on the side where his hand is as they move him down the hall.]

[She does obey, her brow furrowed, hand to her forehead. She has to remind herself to breathe, watching them roll him in, following closely as she can, that is allowed. She asks no questions just yet, but she can see some expression on his face, and that lets her at least take a breath.]

[He's moved to another bed in the ER, groaning dissily at the move. Watson's finally realizing what happened, remembering a bit of the accident. Most of it is a blur though and considering he's still seeing two and three of everything, he knows he's got a concussion.

The ER doctor looks him over, leaving one side of Watson free if Mary wants to stand there. Everyone still seems to think she's his wife.]

[Most of the discussion goes over the top of Mary's head and she just reaches for his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze to let him know she has not left his side. The doctor begins to explain to her what has happened but she just nods, trying not to appear to be on the brink of tears. It is not severe, he will recover In due time. She takes another deep breath.]

[The squeeze on his hand gets Watson's attention and he finally realizes she's there.]

Mary? [Two or three of them, all blurry and each one looking more worried than the next] You're ok, right?? Please say you're ok? [He doesn't remember whether she was out on the street with him or still in the restaurant when the crash occurred.]

Shh, it is okay. I am fine and you will soon be, too.

[She assures him gently, giving his hand another squeeze, her blue eyes shining.] I will step out to give you some privacy with the doctor, but I will be right back. Don't you even worry about me. I just want to make sure you're cared for.

[He's relieved that she isn't hurt, letting his head fall back into the pillow. Ugh, such a headache...

Wait, no, she's leaving? His hand is reluctant to let go of hers.] ...you...you can stay? I mean... [He still looks a little disoriented, not really knowing what he means. A nurse is putting a bag of crushed ice on his head and Watson groans almost happily that some sort of pain relief is going on.] What happened?

[Mary holds the ice pack against his head, smiling gratefully as the nurse urges her into the chair.]

You went to haul a taxi, I had been getting my jacket from coat check and - and, when I stepped outside, you'd been crushed under a taxi hit by an SVU. I'd seen it rush away, couldn't make out the license plate. I - I wish I had been, I should have been there with you!
