The Doctor was in mid-ramble, "So, really your straightening iron can be adapted to..." when suddenly all the lights flickered and then turned off in the cabin they were in.
"Oh!" He wanted to stand up to take a look, but already knew the passengers would beat him to it. "Strange, wasn't expecting that!" Then again, who does expect such a thing to happen?

Martha was only partially listening about straightening irons and what they could do when suddenly she, the Doctor, and everyone else was plunged into darkness. She looked up and then out the window, though with her eyes not yet adjusted she didn't see anything.
"Still here." He spoke calmly, in hopes that'd ease Martha's worries. "Don't stand up... People are panicking and I don't want us to get separated."
And just that, he felt someone tripping over his foot and falling to the ground. The Doctor reached down to help him up, but it truly was pitch black."Did the power go out in tunnel too?"
"Yes, let's hope." He tightened his grip in her hand, listening to people panic around them, and running out of the car into the next. Looking around, he furrowed his brows for a moment.
Leaning over to Martha, "I think we should go afterall. Something doesn't feel right." What that 'something' was, he couldn't tell, just there was a nagging sensation in him.
Martha watched the people. She tried to decide if she felt the panic that everyone else felt, or if this was something worse. "I agree... Let's get out of here."
Standing up (as best as one could stand up in this chaos), the Doctor lead Martha down the car to find one of the doors already open. Some people were pushing each other out, trying to escape, and they followed suit.
Outside, the tunnel was narrow, and the Doctor had to keep a hand on the wall in other to keep his balance. "You alright?" He turned back to Martha.
Martha looked around. "Yes. Just don't let go. I'll lose you in both the crush and the darkness."
At that moment, the ground suddenly shook. Martha turned left and right trying to figure out what was causing it when suddenly people started screaming. "Doctor..." she began
He stood really still for a moment listening, unable to officially determine if this a nature-made phenomena or something else. Regardless, he most definitely wanted out. "Let me see your mobile." He fished through his pocket for his screwdriver. If anything, they needed light and he would be able to adapt a flashlight using her mobile phone.
"There's no service down here," She began while handing him her phone. Then she realized he probably wasn't going to use it as a phone. "Right, here it is."
Poking his tongue out at the corner of his mouth, he quickly adapted the phone... And let there be light!
"Brilliant! Allons-y, Martha!" He took her hand and away they went running down the tunnel as the rumbling continued. Glancing backwards, "What is that?!"
Martha ran with him, but looked back when he asked. "Um... I... I think the ceiling is caving in. Yes... ceiling is caving in. Faster Doctor!" She turned forward and put on a burst of speed.
Oh those poor people... The Doctor felt a rush of sadness that there was nothing he could do for them. And right now, he had to focus on saving himself and Martha before anything else could be done!
Rushing forward, his grip tightened on her hand, determined to not lose her as they carried on. "There! I think there's the end!" There was alot of rubble, but he was sure they could make it before they got crushed.
Once there, he immediately pocketed the phone and assisted Martha upwards.
Martha put on a burst of speed as she ran with the Doctor. Clambering over rubble was difficult, but they made it out with little more than bruises and lacerations. She was going to need to stitch some things up.
Once they were safe, she clung to the Doctor for a moment, breathing heavily. "Med lab. For the injuries," she gasped.
The Doctor shook his head, "Th'TARDIS is too far away. We're at least 5 blocks from our stop." He glanced around on the street and saw a great deal of debris in the air from the collapsed tunnel.
Sirens could be heard in the distance and growing louder from the ambulances and police arriving. Spotting a few people struggling to escape where they just had, the Doctor rushed over to pull them out. They were far more bruised than him or Martha. "what happened!?" The woman asked the Doctor.
But there was too much chaos to tell at this point.
Ever the medical doctor, Martha rushed over to help as well. The Doctor was right. The TARDIS was too far away, and she needed to help the people. She assessed each person as best she could as she pulled them out, though most of them seemed to be in shock.
Until one woman came out with quite a lot of blood on her head. Martha pulled her aside. "Ma'am can you tell me what day it is?" Martha asked as she began examining for concussion.
