John is at the park waiting for Mary. He'd texted her an hour ago and asked her to meet at the park at 5. He's been sitting here, playing with the little black box in his hands for an hour. Maybe he's rushing things? He can't help but think that he is. Hell, he'd only just told her that he loves her. But then again, John knows how short life can be and he doesn't want to chance loosing Mary before he even fully gets her.
And any ways...they could be engaged for a year if they want. No need to rush the wedding or anything. John snaps his eyes closed and shoves the box into his pants pocked. He can't be thinking that far ahead! She could still say no if she wanted. He sighs, putting his face into his hands. It's too soon...too soon, he keeps thinking. She'll never say yes! She hasn't even met my family! He groans. This is a bad idea.
!!!! This is exciting!mmorstanFebruary 28 2012, 05:32:37 UTC
Mary, ever observant, was completely clueless to John's intentions for their meeting today. She got ready in her usual fashion, fixing her hair just so. She did apply a new shade of lipstick that wasn't too different from her usual colors, but a change nonetheless. She walked to the park with a skip in her step, a girlish confidence that she wore happily in recent days.
She turns the corner with a smile on her face when she sees him seated on the bench from behind. Stealthily, Mary creeps up and gently wraps her arms around his shoulders, kissing his cheek. "Hello, stranger," she greets.
:) Oh yes it is. hamishforanameFebruary 28 2012, 05:38:08 UTC
At first John tries to jerk away. He'd been so lost in thought and tense that when Mary got his attention he panicked. Quickly though he realized it was her and relaxed back against the bench. He gives an awkward, shaky laugh.
"Oh...Hello, Mary." He smiles a little but it comes off like his laugh. Awkward and shaky.
"No, s'alright." He smiles, leaning over to kiss her. "Thinking and not paying attention to anything else." His hand goes down to run over the box-shape in his pants pocket.
"Um..good. Really good. Yourself?" He offers back.
"That's...That's good." He nods and then feels his stomach do little flips. "Me too, Mary." He nods in agreement. He'd had a short shift at the Clinic then he'd gone out to get the ring he'd seen a week before.
Taking in a deep breath he shakes his head. "Um...I've not...um not planed to go anywhere."
"Oh, just a nice sit then. I like that. Quiet evening," she says quietly, resting her head on his shoulder as she watches the other pedestrians wander by. An elderly woman wanders past and shoots her a smile. She returns it gladly, blushing a little.
John gives the lady a little nod as he tangles their fingers together. He closes his eyes and realizes that if he can't bring himself to do it now...well, then he won't be able to do it later. Slowly he gets up, pulling her with him. "Hang on, Marry." he tells her as he mentally gets hismelf ready for this.
"Yeah. An idea." He nods. He takes this moment to lean over and kiss her because if she says no this maybe the last time. So he kisses her like it's their last time.
John smiles a little. "I hope so..." He takes a deep breathe and gives her another little kiss before he pulls away. John keeps hold of her hand as he fumbles with the little box in his pocket. Finally he's able to get it out and he slowly starts to go down onto his left knee.
Mary's breath catches in her throat. That gesture, that position, that could only mean one thing. How long had they been dating? Surely just under two months or so. Maybe less. Maybe it was more. Who cared about how long? Some people know it's right with less time.
Tears prick her eyes and she blinks them away, one already sliding from the corner, down her cheek. "John?"
He gathers himself enough to speak. "I-I know...it's...it seems rushed but, Mary, I love you." He kisses the hand he's still holding. "And...I want to be with you...and..." He blushes and figures it's best to get right down to it. "Mary Morstan...will you marry me?"

She ends her embrace and comes around to sit next to him, hands neatly folded in her lap. "How are you, John? I hope you haven't been waiting long."
