The Doctor was having flashbacks from when he was reunited with the Master not too long before he started traveling with Donna. Only this wasn't quite that far into the future, but it was the future nevertheless for a nearby distant planet, not Earth.
"Why did we come here again?" Hand cuffed together in a cell, feeling dirty and grimy wasn't his idea of fun, but then again he was the one that lead them here. They accidentally found themselves caught up in a drug trafficking ring. Splendid.
"Because you said we'd get to witness the spectacle of a lifetime. A meteor shower that only happens once a millennium. Beautiful, you said. Stunning. Well, Time Boy. I don't see a meteor shower. Because we're locked in a cell." This was exactly why exploring boarded up buildings was a very bad idea! Always led to trouble.
Donna tugged at the handcuffs for the umpteenth time. What? They might magically open this time... Or not.
He tugged right back as well, not enjoying that they weren't only tied together but to the cell door itself as well. This was proving to be a difficult escape, and he wasn't sure how to go about it.
"Maybe if you squint out the doorway, you'll still see something." Hey, he was trying to be a little encouraging!
"If I turn, can you reach inside my pocket and get it? It's inside the left inner breast pocket." His right hand was the one handcuffed, and it was awkward twisting his left hand to try and reach it.
He waited for Donna to stammer, and he couldn't help the bemused grin that was there.
That was... definitely unexpected. It's sad that in one's relationships he'd expected to receive a slap rather than a hug. Shows you how they worked.
"Well, let's escape first and we'll see what happens." They moved down the hallway to the main door. Peeking through the bars for a moment, he unlocked it and they were out! It didn't take long before security was notified.
She only slapped him when he did stupid things. Or annoying things. Or... okay, okay, she slapped him a lot. But not as hard as she could - only when he really deserved it...
"I'm guessing that alarm isn't the lunch bell..." Just their luck in a post-apocalyptic world and they still had sirens to alert them of escaped prisoners. Wonderful.
Uh oh, very angry people up ahead! She grabbed the Doctor's arm, [ulling him into an alley with her.
Their backs were pressed up against a wall, watching as guards ran past. He eyed their surroundings and then started moving further back into the alley. "Maybe we can escape better this way."
He was really hoping so, otherwise they'd have to become really creative here shortly.
"Beginning to notice this seems to happen to us a lot, Doctor. Occupational hazard? Health and Safety would have a field day evaluating this job, y'know?"
She sighed, using their short hiding session to catch her breath. "Looks pretty clear that way!"
It was... for the most part. They had to hide in various buildings along the way until they made it to the outskirts of the area. The sirens were fainter here, as they made a break for it into the woods.
The Doctor nearly fell down a steep hill once there, and eased Donna down with him. Finding an old stump, he sat down to catch his breath. "Never... doing this again!" It was wishful thinking.
"Oh? Planning on retiring then? Spending the rest of your days with a book, on a beach? No? Reckon we'll be arrested again within a week." Trouble followed them everywhere.
Donna took a few deep breaths, chest heaving, legs aching from running. "How much further to the TARDIS?"
"That would be nice! I do have an entire library..." Honestly, it had been a while since he really sat down and read something.
Looking up at the sky, he looked lost in thought for a moment, "Oh, I suppose to the west on the edge of the village. It won't be easy, though." That was how they got caught in the first place. No one warned them that the area was closely monitored and often used for trafficking.

She huffed and reached over to grope awkwardly around in his pocket. Goddamn sonic screwdriver, come here!

"Ah, there we go!" He took it from her and freed themselves. Dusting off his clothes, he glanced over to her, "Where to?"

"Somewhere with clean water! I want a bath!"
