"Miss Tyler, might I entice you with two tickets to the Exposition Universelle? I heard there is a splendid display of something Paris boasts about called the Eiffel Tower and some other interesting curiosities!" The Doctor pulled out his psychic paper and dangled it in front of her, blocking the sun from where she sat at the park.
She grinned, reaching out to take the paper from him and giving it the once-over. "D'you know? I do believe you can, Doctor. What sort of adventuress would I be if I turned down an opportunity like that?" Handing the leather-fold and paper back to him, she rose from her spot on the blanket and moved to stand in the sun as she folded the cloth up. Picnics were brilliant, but the Fair! A World's Fair! Picnics were brilliant, but how could they compete? "To Paris?"
"Oh, I dunno! You seemed quite engaged in cloud watching. I'd hate for you to have it interrupted." A grin spread across his face as he helped her roll up the blanket and pick up the remaining items.
"To Paris!" He took her hand and rushed back to the TARDIS to drop off the items and be on their way.
Bouncing about the control console, "1900! The Eiffel Tower introduction! As well as Russian nesting dolls! Diesel engines are starting to become popular. And OOOOOH!" His eyes were wide as he spun to look at her, "And something else quite special!"
"Hah! Just 'cos I found the pterodactyl and you couldn't see it 's no reason to be ashamed. Next time we're could watching, maybe you can spot the more excitin' thing." Tongue peaking out, she gave his arm a friendly pat. Was she still teasing him? Why, yes. Yes, she was!
Back in the TARDIS, she didn't bounce, but as she circled around after him, there was an extra bit of pep in her step. When he stopped, spinning around to face her, Rose came to a halt as well. "Somethin' else besides the Russian nestin' dolls? An' here I was thinking the Eiffel Tower's debut was gonna be the highlight." Resting a hand on the console, she leaned forward towards him, excitement glittering in her eyes. "Go on, then. What's the other thing?"
That wasn't anything like a pterodactyl, but he wasn't going to ruin her imagination. He'll accept that pat and move on.
"SUR-PRISE, Rose! Noun, an 'unexpected or astonishing event, fact, or thing'. It won't be any of those if I spoil it now." The TARDIS wobbled slightly before the loud 'thud!' indicating their landing. Running to grab his jacket he threw it on and bounced in place. "C'mooon!" Too bad they were too early for cotton candy, as that wouldn't come around for another few years. Some other fair treat will have to be found.
He held out his hand at the door and waited for her to join.
Both of her brows went up and her head cocked to the side as he quoted from his mental dictionary. "I know what 'surprise' mean-" Distracted momentarily by the wobbling, she focused on holding onto the console for balance. It was far from being the worst landing they'd ever had. Rose was actually rather impressed, though she would just keep that to herself. His ego was quite healthy and didn't need encouraging.
What had she been saying? Ah, yes. "You said it was special. You didn't say anythin' about surprises," she reminded him. Rose was all for surprises and flying by the seat of her trousers - or skirt, as the case might be. He just...hadn't been clear on that one. She ran to join him at the door, pausing just inside the ship. "Turn of the century France - shouldn't I go change or something? If we scandalize someone an' you call me a naked child again, I'm gonna smack you."
He was already bouncing at the door, ready to take off running through the streets to the opening gate, until she had to open her gob. "Wellll I suppose there's something you can change into." The short skirt might cause people to think she's a prostitute now that he thought about it.
"I'll wait here." He shooed her away to the wardrobe room as he stuffed his hands in his pockets and looked about at what little he could see already. In his mind, he started rattling off things to do - see the Eiffel Tower, maybe play around with the Telegraphone, view a few paintings, see the largest refracting telescope of it's time! And of course his special surprise. Yup a good day indeed!

The shooing earned him an exasperated (albeit affectionate) finger point. "I'm holdin' you to that. Be right back!"
By 'right back,' of course, she meant fifteen minutes. The wardrobe was huge and, helpful though the TARDIS was adjusting its layout so that the Rose-sized and era-appropriate clothing was right there when she walked in...choosing what to wear took a while. Even when one was in a hurry, as Rose was. Obviously. Because they were in Paris! The Eiffel Tower was brand new! And there was a surprise on the horizon, which she wasn't sure she could wait to see.
On the way back to the console room, she debated internally over the best way to get the Doctor to agree to make the surprise portion of the day the first portion of their day. She grinned when she emerged from the hallway before re-joining him at the door. "Now, I'm ready. Upwards an' onwards?"
Oh long skirt. Really long skirt! At least it wasn't too horrible poofy as the turn of the century style was starting to really change around this time. However, the color was nice and suited her quite well, despite the lack of skin she typically exposed. No, he wasn't ogling her, just a running social commentary in his head.
"Upwards and onwards!" He held out his arm for her to take hold as they walked down the street towards all the noise and voices chattering about. "Really, you're gonna love this! I went to the 1933 Chicago World Fair at least 3 times. Fantatic! Went to the baseball game... flew in the Zeppelin..." Really, he was too giddy as he urged Rose to move faster.
It was entirely possible Rose preened and even maybe posed a bit more than was strictly necessary. Dressing up like this was both fun and gave her the opportunity to be extra feminine, although she didn't do it most of the time. She felt pretty and, if he happened to think she looked beautiful (not that he said anything), she'd call that a bonus. A big one

"Dunno! Maybe!" He couldn't remember if they would be able to or not, but they'd soon find out!
He most definitely was pressing his luck going 3 times, but he made sure to choose a completely separate event each time and vastly different months, given the fairs lasted a long time.
As they walked along, he couldn't help to sneak peeks to gauge her expression, it was exciting to see her so animated, which was one reason why he enjoyed traveling with her so much. They got closer and closer to the many people walking about viewing different attractions - street peddlers, storytellers, artists. "Tower first?"
Maybe they'd get lucky and this would be one of those trips that didn't end with them running for their lives. Rose loved the danger and adventure and saving people, but sometimes, it was nice to just spend time with the Doctor without all of that

She wanted information? He was the perfect one to ask! "La dame de fer or the iron lady is her nickname - yes, a lady! It's the tallest man-made structure and will remain so for oh, 40 years give or take. Construction started in 1887, completed last year... Erm, What else?"
He rattled off a few more facts as they queued up and chatted away with some others in the line. Closer and closer they got until they were underneath, the Doctor now pointing out some constructional tidbits as they moved upwards.
She wanted information. Part of it was, admittedly, that she knew how much he liked to share information about the places they visited. The bigger part, though, was a genuine curiosity. So, she listened attentively as he told her about the Tower, about the workers who'd stayed up and worked on it all night before the fair opened so that spectators could go up to the second platform, and about the protests that'd centered around its construction. Surprise colored her features at the last. The Eiffel Tower was such a symbol for France in her time that the idea of artists banding together against it boggled her mind a bit

For a moment there, he didn't think the stairs were going to end until they actually did. "Ahhhh! Look!" His enthusiasm matched hers and the crowd's. Onlookers stepped rather closely towards the edge, pointing out significant points of interest and commenting.
"It's beautiful!" He remark in agreement with Rose. He leaned into her slightly and pointed out certain things in their line of view and couldn't agree more with being thankful neither were afraid of heights. Scoping out the view on each side and other points of interest, they started making their way down. "We should come back at night time, I bet its interesting." In that seeing the lights dimmly flicker as well as actually being able to see some of the night's sky.
But for now, he was content in descending with Rose to continue of their exploration. "There's plenty to see."

Or a timorous beastie, for that matter.
